An option between 'never or rarely' and every few hours is needed --- I voted rarely, as there's many days/weekends I never pull up my work email, yet, if I am on call I check every few hours or if there's a specific situation such as a major implementation or upgrade - I may ad hoc review email on evenings/weekends.

I'm in Sales/Account Management, so I look at every email subject/sender as it comes in (if I'm not doing something else). If it seems critical I'll get to it ASAP otherwise I just leave until the next business day. Email triage!
