I believe the automated intact and pre visit registration systems are great tools to ensure you get as much time with the Doctor consulting and examining, so the doctor performs the “doctor” tasks. I do not think that the (history documentation is part of this, but the review of the history sure is, as well as the physical examination, discussion of plan) during the exam room encounter, most providers know the administrative burden is completed after the encounter with the patient.

That is that most office or providers are not really using what they have that address the intake from patients, or their systems are not supporting the pre exam intake. Some Providers spend much more time outside of the encounter, but I find this as an exception and not the rule, I do see most providers not wanting to engage in the insurance rules and the seem to shy away from patients due to the increased burden from regulatory agencies and insurance companies. Continue to automate everyday, is my recommendation to providers and health systems, make it easier to be seen by allowing more access to helping patients help themselves.

We have come a long ways from 1990's to today, lets continue by engaging with systems that truly support the total engagement concept to help providers have all the data they can.

While the doctor is performing “doctor” tasks (history, physical, discussion of plan) during the exam room encounter, most providers know the administrative burden is completed after the encounter with the patient. That is the problem. Providers spend much more time outside of the encounter and away from patients due to the increased burden from regulatory agencies and insurance companies. Most patients who are not in healthcare themselves do not understand this.
