All of the scenes involving Mason Quinn (Chris Vance) in the premiere of Season 3 were obviously shot against a green screen. The texture of his image over the background is starkly different than shots of Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) against an actual background.

In their final confrontation, they are like Superman and Clark Kent—never shown together in the same shot. She shoots him several times and he conveniently falls behind a set of cement stairs to conceal that it’s not Vance in the scene. She then stands him up after shooting him in his bullet proof vest. In the shots with Quinn’s face in them, a black woman’s hand holding a pistol is in frame with the right arm extended. Cutting to McCall, she has her left arm extended with the pistol drawn close to her chest. The scene continues without showing their faces in the same frame, which makes the entirety of the scene clunky and very unnatural.

This green screen slight of hand supports the idea that Mason Quinn is dead and out of the script given that Vance couldn’t show up for the episode shoot. He was probably filming another project and this was the best they could do to get his character wrapped up.

Definitely the worst episode. Completely predictable. And her daughter, what a brat. I cannot stand her. Do what you are told without arguing. Selfish.

Did not really enjoy this one. Felt forced and predictable. My wife and I enjoyed the first two seasons, but this one fell short. Mason also is supposed to be the big bad for most of the show, and yet he was such a forgettable character with his scenes. Unfortunate, since we were really looking forward to watching a new season. Now we’re just hoping things get better from here on out.
