Another local student threatened a school shooting last week. How should we address the situation?
Most kids who do this are just looking for attention — and to discourage this, we need to punish them hard, not give them a slap on the wrist.
It is clear that our schools and community needs to budget more for social and mental health services. We need to focus on prevention, not reaction.
I think local teachers should be armed; that may not discourage the jokers our there, but it will deter actual threats.
When kids threaten to do this, parents should also be held responsible if they don't practice firearm safety. Can't have a school shooting without a gun.
I really don't know what to do anymore — doesn't seem like anything works, and the problem is just getting worse.
