I am hoping for Max and Helen reunion! We waited 4 seasons for them to finally get together then in a few episodes, they have Max interested in someone else! I have not watch one episode of Season 5. There are too many ways the writers could have gone with Max and Helen. I invested 4 seasons in the show because of Max and Helen’s relationship from Season 1 Episode 1. It took thru the end of season three for him to even show he was ready to move on with Helen. Now in one season a few episodes and he’s ready to move on from Helen? I didn’t invest all of that time to see it ruined by the writers trying to force a relationship with Max and Elizabeth!!!!!!!

The reason the show is being canceled is real simple, LOW RATINGS. Why would another network pickup a show with low ratings?

So many emotions! Such a rollercoaster. I really hated the cliffhanger and am hopeful for Max and Elizabeth to progress forward. I guess only time will tell…

Fabulous show. So heartfelt, great actors, embodies everything..love, conflict, medical issues, real life struggles.
The characters are the soul of the show, we become invested in them. Storylines are awesome. Can't wait to see more on January 3rd. Please some other network pick up this show.!!!! Why on Earth would NBC cancel this show ?

I like New Amsterdam to the point where it's one of my regular shows. I do wish it could continue and be picked up by another local network.
All the comments I read so far are so on target, whether I agree with them or not. The series is a microcosm if all the situations we face in life: love, love gone bad, choices to make, family doings, rescues: saving people's lives. The series evokes personal type connections, where for an hour each week, we take the characters as part of our own family and THAT, alone is the mark of a good show!!
Although I didn't watch these two shows, I remember "Peyton Place," as well as "EastEnders," two examples that brought out connections with human emotions, things people could identify with. A third show comes to mind: Dallas, very popular and identifiable to it's viewers.
New Amsterdam, you are great!! Keep on keepin' on (if you can).

@Rita Jane Action, I agree with you 100% about wanting to keep the show going another 2 or 3 years, BUT the ONLY WAY the show can continue is if Ryan Eggold the star of the show & at times director of some of the episodes tries to take the show to another network, since it's already been confirmed by NBC that this season is the final season of the show on NBC, since they're already planning on having a reboot of Night Court be on the time slot that NA's currently on, &:the really sad & scary thing for NBC is that the Corporate suits at the Network's HQ up in NY is seriously considering in the next few years of instead of shows like NA, Chicago PD, Law & Order Organized Crime & other shows like that on during the 10PM slot, that they're thinking of putting in that time slot ANOTHER reality show or bringing back Jay Leno which I think is a BIG MISTAKE for NBC, because they could lose viewers to FOX, ABC & CBS.

this season has been amazing as they have worked through several issues. the show touches my heart every single time. I wanted it to continue another couple of years at least. I've loved it so much and it deserves ❤️ and gratitude.
