I think the show’s creator and writers took an opportunity to spread awareness of Death with Dignity. There are several states where this is legal and several more with legislation pending.

I will miss this show. It was phenomenal! Hard to watch it end this way when I have watched all of my family I grew up with pass from cancer or a similar manner. I thought it was extremely well written I just wish it didn't end so sad. Brought back a lot of painful memories for myself.

The show began with the friends struggling to deal with a friends suicide, then in the end, assisting with a friends suicide. It’s a hard topic to talk about, and very hard to face. I hope this show opens a conversation for people that need it. Overall Interesting twist, and I for one loved the show.

Omg, all of you complaining. Hospice care is great. So is morphine. Apparently, you've never been around a cancer patient.

There is a point where the pain is so bad, even morphine doesn't help.

Assisted suicide should be legal. No one should have to suffer that horrible pain. They should be able to die on their terms, not cancer's

The finale was extremely disappointing. Do they not know about hospice care? Do they not know about morphine and other pain relievers? Dragging one’s friends and wife into a suicide, which, at that point, becomes an assisted suicide? Sorry, but that’s NOT how to love your wife and friends. Nash continually pushed the envelope and drove millions of viewers away over the 5year period. Don’t believe me? Look for yourselves

I haven't watched the final episode, mainly because I refuse to say good-bye to the best show on TV. Anyway, as a wife of a cancer victim, I am so disappointed in Gary's final decision. I agree with the above comments, the writers dealt with so many issues in a realistic manner, I was expecting more, Hospice care is such a misunderstood service, I think they missed an opportunity to educate viewers.

Agree with Robyn. Ending the series with Gary’s death was sad and heartless enough/ but to push the assisted suicide issue was unforgivable. Also, totally unrealistic- although the character physically looked like a dying man, his functionality did not coincide. Putting friends in that position was terrible and making it look like a professional nurse can just hand over drugs like that is NOT A REALITY!! What were u thinking!?!!RNs should take offense at that.
Yes, if he was going to die, then Hospice should have been the way to go- just like the Midwife service was presented in earlier episodes.
Shame on the writers here- glad the show is over!

This show would have been an ideal platform to introduce Hospice care instead of having Gary's friends/wife illegally give him drugs (morphine?). They missed an opportunity to show how end of life can be enhanced through professionals.
