Not sure why you all think Sam’s the one who looks the most ridiculous with 4 Gerwig films. Pretty sure it’s Adam and Josh who do for not having any.

Stay strong, Adam, some of us are with you. Not most of us apparently. But some of us.

Sam (Lady Bird/Little Women/Frances Ha/Mistress America) wins in a landslide — okay maybe not a total landslide, but this was an easy vote for me.

Sam gets the best film on the board (Frances Ha), another top-5 film (Lady Bird), the most underrated movie in the entire bunch (Mistress America), and a rock-solid fourth film in Little Women. Not a bad movie, or even one I’m just middling on, among those. As a huge fan of Gerwig’s work, it hurts Josh and Adam more to not have a Gerwig film in their stable than it hurts Sam to not have a Nolan film, in my opinion.

Josh (Memento/Dunkirk/Inception/Batman Begins) winds up second, for having two of the three best Nolan films and two top-5 films on the board (Memento, Dunkirk), but he doesn’t have a Gerwig anywhere to speak of which hurts a bit. Inception is a strong pick, and Batman Begins is good, but I would rather watch any of the Gerwigs eight days out of the week.

Adam (Interstellar/The Prestige/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises) is last. He’s got a top-5 pick (Interstellar) and the 6th best film on the board (The Dark Knight), but I am colder on The Prestige than most, and he has the worst of Nolan’s Batman movies to round out his roster.

Went Josh. Having Memento carried him over the line from Adam. I have not been as entertained by Gerwig's films. So for picking the winner they were always gonig to drag down anyone who had Gerwig films on their list. So for me Sam anchored himself at the bottom.

Adam ended up with the best list not despite but BECAUSE of Josh and Sam’s machinations. The lesson here? Adam needs to be saved from his own tendencies more often ????

Then again, he’s getting obliterated on the poll, so maybe that shouldn’t be the takeaway.

Sorry, Josh and Adam — no Gerwig picks immediately means a losing draft in my opinion. I'm with Josh here that Gerwig's career is shaping up to be more exciting than the rest of Nolan's, plus I'll just plant my flag and say that Gerwig is already a more interesting and exciting filmmaker. Kudos to Sam for doubling down on the Gerwig filmography... an incredible and surprising decision haha!

That being said, I am a little perplexed Adam is getting bludgeoned in the poll, as I think both Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises + The Prestige is an extremely strong combination that would've at least pulled a stronger share of the votes. Nevertheless, this is the rare draft that resulted in three extremely strong lists (though I'm disheartened to know that I am still alone in loving Tenet more than half of Nolan's other films).

I like to imagine a film festival scenario for these things.

Sheepishly, i must admit that a couple of Sam's picks are blindspots for me (which works in his favour, from a film festival standpoint).

And Josh's "Batman Begins" is almost certainly my least-enjoyed of all the Nolan films i've seen.

So i'm Team Adam, but not simply by default; i think that "Interstellar" and "The Prestige" are excellent festival pairings, as are (obviously) "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises".
