We did nothing for Crimea. So why for the rest of Ukraine? They aren't an ally nor a democracy. They've outlawed opposition parties. We pressured Russia to invade mainland Ukraine by refusing to back down on the unnecessary encroachment by NATO up to their front porch. Putin is an idiot though and doesn't know how to save face when he realizes the Russian military is more talk and bravado than actual success in the face of determined opposition. We should not offer more aid to Ukraine for which there has been no transparency. We should offer an apology and offer to help broker a peace deal instead. Saber rattling with Putin is a stupid move, as all it's done is grant China a free pass to form a Russia-China-North-Korea axis of power that could explode into world war over Taiwan - with whom we actually do have ambiguous defensive agreement with - more than we ever had with Ukraine.
