What do you think of the dozen new stop signs that will be placed in downtown Poulsbo?

Well! a poll! This would be the first time I have been asked my opinion about this issue --that's right, I'm a downtown Poulsbo business owner and I have never once been asked officially what my opinion was. Not only that? If it had not been published in the newspaper that the city had moved to put in stop signs, I would never had known.

I have to ask--what is the total cost of this proposed change to traffic? Why would you want to "restrict" traffic in any way to a vibrant downtown. Oh wait, did I say vibrant? Do you know how many empty, boarded up and "for rent" spaces there are in the downtown? At last count I found 12, and that was in a two block stretch of Front St, from the Gran Kirk townhouses to the Poulsbo Compounding Drug store.

Why not spend that money for stop signs on something useful like advertising, tourist activities, economic development, instead of restricting the flow of traffic to our little local businesses. Maybe local businesses are no longer wanted in downtown Poulsbo, because anyone driving a car to one of the local shops will now have to brave a vast new number of stop signs to get there!

Over a month ago, a petition was presented to the City of Poulsbo at one of their City Council meetings with the signatures of 36 local downtown business owners who opposed the planned traffic revisions--including the stop signs on Front St. Future plans for the downtown include the re-routing of two of the downtown streets to one way streets!

It seems to me, that any flow of traffic past my business in these times is good business for me. I want people to know who I am, what I do and where my shop is. I WANT people downtown!

Good luck Poulsbo, I think your downtown just might be doomed.
