As a white heterosexual middle-age male who doesn't talk about his religion at work, I'm fortunate that I really haven't experienced any of these forms of discrimination. My family is multiracial and they have experienced racial discrimination in the past, which is shameful. A humble plea for everyone in a leadership position to please be considerate, fair, and non-discriminatory!

As a young(ish) woman, I believe multiple forms of discrimination have influenced my career to varying degrees and in combination at points in time. The item not listed here that I have found to be the biggest factor for me as an informatics leader is my clinical degree; as an RN, it often takes knowing someone already in the room to be invited to play in a space where others have the MD credential.

It can be challenging to diagnose which one is the strongest influence but I have found that the impact is compounding when you have multiple of these working against you. For me it's race, then age with religion just being one more reason I'm an outsider but not really a factor (I don't think).
