I tried reverse-engineering the vote count from the displayed percentages. Most other matchups have two decimal places but this 50.7% to 49.3% makes me think this possibly could be 36-35. Was this outcome determined by a single vote? What is the Madness rule if there ever were a tie?!

I watched both of these films for the first time in preparation for Madness. Making me choose between them in the *play-in round*? You’ll he hearing from my lawyer.
(I gave the edge to All That Heaven Allows by the slimmest of margins.)

It should have been Written on the Wind, y'all. Dotty Malone mambos her father to death!

I feel like IMITATION OF LIFE is going to win here as the more "important" picture, but nothing equals the beauty and heart-break of All That Heaven Allows; it has been remade and copied many times, but it stands strong as the greatest melodrama of all time and nothing quite equals it.
I suppose there was a social commentary aspect to All That Heaven Allows, but it can hardly compare with that of Imitation of Life. Both are heavy-handed and melodramatic, but one earns it and the other doesn't. Plus Rock Hudson was well-named; he's a weight dragging down just about every movie he's in (Giant fans, sorry, but it's true.)

You Scoundrels! Both Sirks are better than either Huckster. Already going mad with madness! I love this so much.
