Finally saw Asphalt Jungle and really dug it. But I've got to go with my memories of Gun Crazy's horny, twisted fury, and hand it to the scrappy underdog. Wish I had time to re-watch it to be sure.

Finally saw Asphalt Jungle yesterday. Pretty solid film that would have lost a heist film play-in against Rififi for me. But Gun Crazy was one of the lowest on my shortlist. It just felt preachy, a gun-control Reefer Madness without the unintended humor. So a pretty easy choice here.

Why this wasn't a three-way duel with Kiss Me Deadly, we will never know. Asphalt Jungle is the easy choice!

Asphalt Jungle comes in number 18 on my best of 50’s list. Gun Crazy is number 37. But it’s still painful to vote against Gun Crazy. Peggy Cummins as the crazy Annie Starr is film noir lovers femme of the decade.
