The Bad and the Beautiful is this timeless and wonderful tale of complex people and the sacrifices some people are willing to make for art and the lines people won’t cross. It’s incredible… but Judy Garland as Esther Blodgett is one of the greatest performances put to cinema. A Star Is Born has the greatest music scene in film history, an S tier level of production design and a career best out of both Cukor and Mason. Just one of the greatest films ever made and the single film from the 1950’s I find myself revisiting the most. While it can’t realistically fight its way to the end of the bracket, I will be its last supporter in every bout until it finishes. All hail queen of the gays, Judy.

Judy Garland's "A Star is Born" is a stone-cold masterpiece. I really like the competition but this should not be close.
A matchup with the newest Star Is Born would at least be a contest. The Bad The Beautiful is just so delicious — the epitome of a guilty pleasure

Judy Garland’s performance of The Man That Got Away almost wins this matchup, but I liked The Bad The Beautiful more. Could be recency bias, since I just watched it yesterday. Kurt Douglas sure was great in the 50’s. King of charisma.
