Agree with Ofer here. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is vastly underrated. Even Bergman cannot stand up to its infectious fun.
This one hurts. I love them both equally. But now that I’m getting older and starting to realize I’ve been kind of a jerk in my life, maybe I’d rather laugh than dwell in it too much. I guess you could say I’m here for love.
This is going to be an upset. Wild Strawberries is good but Bergman had other better films. Marilyn Monroe's reputation continues to grow as a comedic actress 70 years later and Gentleman Prefer Blondes is one of the prime examples.
Maybe some recency bias at play here since it was part of my homework but Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was just a lot of fun. I'm a sucker for a good musical. Wild Strawberries probably needs a rewatch but right now, probably not top-tier Bergman for me.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is underrated - kind of a perfect movie with some of the best numbers of any movie musical. but voting against Bergman is something I can't do - let me keep Victor Sjöström finding his passion for life, let me keep Ingrid Thulin wanting to keep her baby. not to mention 2 Bibi Andersson.
