As fantastic as Earrings is my long history of loving Streetcar has to win out. Four, count ‘em, four stand out performances in this one make this one of my all-time favorites.
So many tough ones in this first round but I'm voting for Madame de as it's a film I first saw after hearing Michael Phillips enthuse about it on the show
I didn't expect Streetcar to be such a surprise, so embedded in our culture so much of it is, but it was, and it was VIBRANT, alive, tense... I should hate this movie, but it's so beyond its type.

A Streetcar Named Desire changed cinema in several ways. but The Earrings of Madame De... is a better film, I would take any of the camera movement or use of editing in it over the charismatic screams of the great Marlon Brando (which I love).

Streetcar is the better film, but that's like saying Close Encounters is better than Star Wars. It is, butS tar Wars is still Star Wars.
You go, Max, and run like the wind (with your camera, no less).
Earrings was a Filmspotting discovery for me. As much as it pains me to see Blanche get sent away, I've gotta give the nod to Ophüls here.

This is more like it. A film I want to see advance versus a film I can get rid of quickly enough. Thank god for a few easy ones.
