I picked On The Waterfront for my bracket, but I voted for Throne Of Blood. I just can't bring myself to vote for McCarthy Naming Names Apologia.

I don't love On the Waterfront as much as its reputation, and Throne of Blood is one of Kurosawa's greatest films.

Kurosawa and Shakespeare: two great tastes that taste great together.

Wow, this one was tough. Throne of Blood might be my favourite Akira Kurosawa film and my favourite Shakespeare adaptation (the arrows!) but On the Waterfront is something else. Brando's performance, Bernstein's score, and the well-earned sentimentality and virtue the movie jus burns with; they really don't make em like that anymore.

Good to see Throne of Blood made the list. It's one of my fav 1950s films. I was worried it was going to be forgotten when I saw the letterbox shortlist.
