Big decade for great films with the word "Seven" in the title. The Seventh Seal was, I think, my first Bergman (or maybe Wild Strawberries?). BTW, I love the Asphalt Jungle; it's one of my favorite noirs. But I have to go with chess-playing death on this one.
Asphalt may be one of the greatest movie of its kind. Seventh Seal doesn't have a kind.
Fortunately it's one of the best movies of any kind.

Was the Bergman vs Monroe pairing happening twice planned or coincidence? For my money it’s easier because you put top tier Monroe vs (just slightly) lesser Bergman and top tier Bergman vs lesser Monroe.
