I love Hitchcock but have always been underwhelmed with Vertigo, also. I think Rear Window is not only more entertaining, but also a better cinephile experience.
Sunset Boulevard, on the other hand, draws me in every time. Once that chimp shows up and creeps me out, I’ve gotta clear my calendar for two more hours, because I won’t be tearing myself away.

I went to school in SF. When I was there, the Castro showed a new print of Vertigo. I watched it with 1400 other cinephiles. This was the first time I had seen the film. And I was bored. Not sure why it’s so praised. It’s well made. But it’s kinda boring.

Added this comment to the wrong Hitchcock-Wilder matchup lol.
Rewatched Sunset Blvd and the central plot is great but any scene with Betty drags and it astounds me that Nancy Olson was nominated for such a plain monotonous performance.

By far the most difficult matchup this round. Both incredible films. But Vertigo offers something mysterious, which brings me back again and again. Sunset is crushing with a phenomenal lead performance. It's hard. Really really hard. Actually. It. Is. Madness.

I voted for Hitchcock over Wilder on the other side of this bracket, but I'm going to flip and reverse it for this one, Sunset Blvd is just a better overall package for me, that doesn't leave me with the same bitterness as Vertigo does, revelatory as Jimmy Stewart as maybe kind of a bad man was to me when I first saw it. In the end, both are journeys into darkness, but I think Sunset is more insightful into its themes than Vertigo. Fine margins, to be sure, but that's what Madness is made of.

Sunset is by far the better film here, so this is actually one of the easier matchups...for me. I know Vertigo will keep it close on merit alone, but I bet Filmspotting Nation agrees!?
I'm nowhere near the fan of either of these that many so clearly are, but Vertigo takes it, here. I think you need to connect with Sunset to really appreciate it. With Vertigo, it helps, but I don't, and I still get why its great.

I just bad mouthed Some Like It Hot, but Sunset Blvd is the real deal Holyfield. The heavy weight champ. Best noir. Best movie about Hollywood. Best performance by an actress… well okay there’s a lot of great performances, but this one is pretty special. I forgot the chump this is up against. It doesn’t matter! Take that drive up to Sunset Blvd every day!
