Retrocession! Taxation without representation isn't right (even if most of the rest of the U.S. suffers from it). Let Maryland represent 'em, Maryland's only a half notch to the right of Karl Marx now.
Retrocession is where a state absorbs another state/district. Its the opposite of succession (where a state breaks away from another state, like West Virginia did with Virginia). So the option of retrocession in this respect would be that of DC becoming part of a state that already exists (probably Maryland or Virginia).
