Tough matchup. My personal favorite drive of the year. Sad to see it go from this tournament, but I'll play it a ton still in remembrance.
Empress has a great section, but drive is more complete
The drive is what I went with. Heart wanted empress but drive to me, is a bit more unique. This one was tough
This Drive is EXCELLENT - they find a really catchy peak and cash in with a great finish. But it's not enough juice to match the sauce this Empress brings.
Total coin toss on this for me. Tails said Empress.

Solid drive, but this Empress takes the icing on the cake.
The SPAC drive the week before this was way better and 6/4-6/5 are some of the best shows performed last year.
This Drive is okay but it certainly is not the Drive in this tournament that has a chance. Very tight matchup but I went Empress since this is her only appearance in this dance.
If you’re a sucker like me for what Rick’s doing in the first half of the blysteria jam, then you gotta love what’s happening here at 12 or so minutes in of this empress that gets the jam sequence going.
This was really hard matchup for 2 jams that both 100% deserve to move on to round 2. I voted Drive, but it was like picking a favorite child.

My 22 vs. 23. Two very different jams, both of which take too long to find their footing.
The Empress is digital sauce done well, but ultimately more bark than bite.
Drive's cyclical ending — powerful, hypnotic, and immersive — wins by a hair on a head that Tumble will separate from its body.

Wanted to relisten to this matchup one more time before official vote. Both great but I just like the Drive a little more
Drive should win here but this Empress is fantastic and I wouldn't be mad if it moved on instead
I really expected to go in this matchup favoring the Empress, but the Drive build caught me by surprise (again). This is Empress is special by Empress standards, but even just a really good Drive build like this (and electric finish) is enough to overtake an exceptional Empress. Both are bracket-worthy and and this is a great early matchup. The Empress sauce is awfully tasty, but I'm going with Drive.
As Empress seemingly always does, this one really gets graded on a curve. It’s one of the cooler Rick mutron jams but it is only like 5-6 minutes of non-standard TEOO. Not nearly enough to come close to the beautifully constructed Drive jam. The delicate middle section emerges into an awe-inspiring, urgent build. Really not a hard decision for me.
Voted Drive. I don’t vote for Empress jams in any round. Shelve.
Definitely like the build in Drive, but I prefer the funky uniqueness of the Empress Jam out of these 2
Great Drive but Empress takes it. Tough to beat the joy of a good digital sauce jam for me
Not as close for me - I have this Drive well above this Empress. Neither one makes it any farther after this so it’s kind of academic, but fun to share thoughts and opinions anyway!

This is a really tough one. Minnie Driver is a great build. But Empress has that Sauce and a bit of a 25 or 6 CCP.

I do love this Drive a lot, but the sauce jam in the Empress is one of my favourite sections of the year - giving it the nod before whichever jam wins falls to Tumble next round
Respectively disagree, this Drive is unique - lots of quieter dynamics and a kind of liquid feeling to Ricks playing. Never moved super high on my list, but one of my most re-listened to jams of the year.
