The Inside Out is a banger. I have the feeling many peeps will go with Big Modern! as it is the longer jam but in my opinion longer =/= better. Give me a 15-20 minute jam that's interesting over a 40-minute jam that gets stale.

Totally going with attendance bias here. Inside Out was a delight. Wildly interesting, unique and even better than the epic Hungersite they dropped in that same show. One of their best covers. Live to jam another day.

I was there for the Big Modern! at PNC. Incredible. But Inside Out hands down!!!

I’m going big modern!
The inside out was very fun.
But the big modern keeps me interested and having fun for 40 minutes which is a rarity.

I don't rank this Inside Out nearly so high as many but it's undeniably and interesting and engaging mood jam.
On the other hand, I have 3 Big Moderns in my bracket and the PNC version isn't one of them. It's good. It's long. It gets bonus points for being both good and long as a debut. But I wouldn't call it great.

This is easily the best Inside Out of 2024. This Modern! Is good but not this year. Ball is life!

This Inside Out is one of my top songs of the year. Would love to see it make it a few rounds.

Really interesting to see all these comments referencing other versions of songs. In a one on one bracket matchup, in my opinion you should only be considering the song in front of you and if it’s a better jam than its matchup…
With that said, huge fan of the dark groove inside out, so that gets my vote. More unique to my ears. Both jams are dope though.

Couldn't agree more with Ken -- I/O is good. It made my bracket. It's the "GOAT" (which is not a high hurdle if you look at prior versions) but it's less enjoyable to listen to. It gets repetitive and kinda boring there in the 2nd half.
BM! is a hell of a debut and badass. Sure, maybe it could have been a touch more focused, but i'd write that off as this being its FTP. For those saying "but other versions are better" yeah ok but that doesn't take away from how audacious this one is and how they take it for a ride.

The Inside Out is very cool! My best friends were at this show and I was Nugsin attentively and blown away by this version of IO. I especially like the 5-10min Blues jam section and funk blues groove from 10-13min. But then things slow down and get dark. That would be fine if it were just for 2-3 mins and then a return to a couple more jamming peaks. Instead this dark noodling continues for 10mins until the song fizzles out. Not an impressive ending.
I find I simply like the BM debut more and find it more impressive. All deep analysis aside--it just makes me smile more and I want to listen to it more often! It certainly gets a bit monochromatic at times, but the pace and drive with which RicK and the whole band take this thing on is pretty impressive. OK I'll admit it, I was there! in the 5th row on Trevors side, I was totally sober and I along with about $14K others were just holding and shaking our heads in disbelief at this amazing debut! Listen to the crowd roars at the two very brief slow downs during the jam, listen to the roar at the end. It was not a perfect jam but it was special. It had a rolling, rollicking, jazzy nature which I love in Goose jams. Give me the Mega BM all day! And then cam the Madhuvan!!!

OK, enough version for debut, but I can agree that it doesn’t have much of an identification other than the fact that they jammed it out for very long. There are a few versions that would’ve put over this
The spoon cover however is fanfuckintastic

Like Neal, I'm a huge Spoon fan. I am not, however, a big fan of this Big Modern! Ambitious debut for sure, but it doesn't have much of an identity as a jam other than it being a debut and very long.
This Inside Out is excellent. It may not do anything spectacularly, but it does a little bit of everything very very well. Funky, groovy, patient, a little angry and weird towards the end. Fun ride. Will it get spanked in the next round? Yes, badly. But it's a worthy second rounder.

This BM continuously dropped down my rankings. Love this IO, probably my favorite version. There’s at least three better BM’s.
Ricksgiving - 10 months ago
Easy IO pick here ????. That jam is so unique and we had a few better moderns of the tour.

Took me a few tries to get 5 + 7 in order to cast my vote for LARGE CONTEMPORARY. Upset alert

Good news! math captchas are back!
Also. IO is a great jam. BM! is long.

This one was tough, had to go BM here though.

Gotta go with BM here. IO does some cool and unusual stuff, but to me it plods along and doesn't really peak like I want it to. Admirable jamming. But the BM has me bopping in my desk chair more than IO.

I’ve been told I like this Inside Out too much. Sorry not sorry. Two awesome sections to this one. Not gonna go all the way but certainly deserves to move on.

Really enjoy this Inside Out and it gets my vote. Love Big Modern but there are several versions I enjoyed more in 2024 so this one isn't making the cut despite the length of the jam.

As I posted on Bsky:
Easy vote for IO, and not b/c part reminds me of Shofukan. Feels like a multi-movement action soundtrack that (although type 2) coheres.
This Modern is certainly Big! (3rd longest performance), covering lots admirably. Also seems all over the place (cf. Cap Cod), w/o knowing what it wants to be.

The birth of big modern. What a kick ass tune and jam. Take it to the bank. The 10 seeds are strong this year

WoW 385 votes cast is this matchup. Well done! The real winner is both of these jams getting some attention.
Big Modern for sure!
