What 6Rom7, Tug, and Pistol 495 said squared! This Drive is pure perfection. It gets better every time I listen to it. One of Goose’s greatest ever. But will probably ultimately lose to something more dissonant :(

I wish one of these was up against something else so they both could make the Final Four. Both deserving!
Seekers_pt_Deuce - 5 weeks ago
Tough call here both are sweet - went Drive, but it was like 51/49 in my head….would take either of these over the Philly Tumble - that’s for sure.

Both jams have the same ending….
Drive wins for me.

Ever had Mississippi mud pie? You're a half step behind if you haven't. Come by my restaurant as it's a staple on our dessert menu. Anywho, this half step reminds me of mississippi mud pie. If you try it then I know ya'll will like it.
Drive is played out too. If I had five versions of the same item on my menu, then that'd be silly.
Eat out more folks!

Remember you’re voting on the Jams. This half step jam is a proper Goose jam. Don’t let some on here convince you otherwise.

Half Step is not proper goose. Vote accordingly.

This Drive is nice but really just kind of meanders thru time and space…there are better jams in 2025 already. The Half Step is full throttle and actually gets the blood pumping. Who cares if it’s a cover. It’s about the jam, folks.

I enjoy the cap run a lot, there were some all time jams there but I think they are overvalued a bit. As fans we were so nervous and anxious about what the music would sound like under Cotter and the cap shows showed that Goose was going to be just fine. That reassurance started with this Drive and since then it’s held a special place in the hearts of fans including myself.
Having said all that I don’t find it as interesting as the 1/2 step, the 1/2 step has a great building peak that just flows with energy.
My vote goes to 1/2 step here.

This will come up multiple times in the next two rounds: whomever came up with the idea that Cotters first show couldn’t possibly generate a JOTY winner is ludicrous. Cotter is a professional and has been doing this for a long time. If anything he would spend an inordinate amount of time making sure he delivered. Get over the idea that’s it’s early. A TON of Goose top quality jams come early in the year. You all know this.
The Drive is better. It’s the best of the year but I will not be surprised if it goes down to Fiddlers Madhuvan

I fell asleep during this Drive. I don’t know it must’ve been the Jack and Coke at el tio.
This Mississippi cooks like heck, has my endorsement.
Stay grateful

Fun fact: Rick changes the lyrics of Half Step from 'daddy" to "papa" to most likely honor his late father who passed away in 2009.

Can I vote for Cap's Red Bird instead ?

This should not be close at all, this half step should have lost two rounds ago. This drive is straight fire

Well, @6ROM7 says it pretty well. As y'all know, I don't think there are any bad Half-Steps and I prefer Goose's version over the Dead. But this Drive cooks from start to finish, holding a steady groove while exploring many different territories without ever dropping into the same old bag of tricks when the band gets bored or doesn't know where to go. This Half-Step is outstanding for its very different deviation from their normal take on it. But the exploration tires out in a couple spots, whereas the Drive never loses a beat. Drive should win this one by a half-step.

Voting for the Drive.
First 2/3 of jams 55/45 Drive. Last 1/3 90/10 Drive.

Without love in the dream it will never come true. The Cap Drive is outstanding, but Jerry is smiling down on Goose and this 1/2 Step. The 1/2 Step is that other thing this band does better than any other. Take any song and make it their own, and this 1/2 Step is one of their best examples to date.
Don’t let the love die here. Vote 1/2 Step.

The best part of this Drive is the composed section. Even half a 1/2 step is better. Plus cotter was seasoned by then

People in earlier rounds obviously mistook the title Half-Step to mean “evaluate just half the jam.” There’s just no way anyone listening all the way through is thinking, “Oh yeah, this _whole thing_ holds up against one of the best performances this band has ever played.”
Drive spends its jam portion locked into that gorgeous, two-guitar rhythmic texturing before seamlessly transitioning into a bright, energetic build. It’s one of the most complete jams the band has ever played, holding up from cradle to grave throughout 2024. Half-Step borrows that opening jam for a few minutes — the one Drive did first and better — before abruptly shifting gears into 8 expendable minutes of hard-squeeze, no-juice churn.
I love a good Dead cover, and this Half-Step IS quite good. But it’s not Final Four material.
Cap Drive is about to send Half-Step toodlelooing.
