Certified Copy and Piano Teacher are all-timers, but it's Kiarostami's idyllic, mysterious romance that edges it out for me.

What an odd trio.

voted for Certified Copy - hoping that it will rise the question What is reality?
perhaps reality is an elusive concept, which is why I didn't really vote against the other two films.

This really should just be a Haneke Cannes Winner play-in, with The White Ribbon and Amour. Or a Palme d'Or play-in with those two, Winter Sleep, Dancer in the Dark, or Shoplifters as good options. The Piano Teacher is easily the best of these three options.

I’m one of those folks who didn’t connect with Anatomy of a Fall, I recognize its quality, but I just never for one second believed that she did it, which takes a lot of the tension out of the film. And The Piano Teacher, weirdly, I read the Jelinek novel before I saw the movie and that is altogether too much time under tension. I hope we get two more Haneke films in this dance, Amour and the White Ribbon are both great (White Ribbon probably gets shredded in the first round because not enough people have seen it). And that leaves Kiarostami’s incredible puzzle of a film Certified Copy. I hope there’s at least one more of his films in the dance, Like Someone in Love, as well, but if we only get one Certified Copy is a great one, Juliette Binoche is absolutely incredible in it as well

I want to rewatch The Piano Teacher now. One of the best performances ever.
