I'm afraid that both Josh and Adam got this wrong when they voted Memento. Revisiting Brick allowed me to see how deadly serious it was, how tight the plotting and editing were, and just how effing funny it was, too! There are few movies that can juggle so many elements at the same time.
Although I simply can’t vote against Memento, I’m so glad the matchup finally got me to correct my Brick blindspot.

Even that philistine Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine knows that Memento is gonna win this matchup.

Brick has a cane with a duck's head, a car with a lamp, and cereal. Checkmate.

I enjoy Brick more, but I think Momento is the more groundbreaking film. I panic-voted Momento, but a big part of me hopes it loses to Brick, lol.

I’ve rarely felt as betrayed and embittered by the end of a movie as with Memento, a movie that has a ton going for it, but I viscerally hate the ending. I just revisited Brick not that long and it absolutely holds up, a great noir, some of the best invented jargon, great patter. Cruises past Memento threateningly flicking a cigarette at it.

This is the most brutal call of the first round. God I hate to lose either of them. I quit.

Love Brick. Ever notice how a lot of Brick matches Miller's Crossing scene for scene.
