Freaking ouch. Almost all of the other matchups have a movie I clearly prefer to vote for or a movie I outright dislike to vote against. But losing either of these gems would be a catastrophe…

The worst thing about Tar is that when I was so blown away by what it accomplishes in its depiction of its protagonist and wanted to watch another film like it, I was out of luck---the film is a singular achievement.
If you want to watch another movie like The Royal Tenenbaums, I have great news: check out every other movie Wes Anderson has ever made.
This is personally brutal for me. I just revisited Tenebaums and for me it’s as close to perfect as a movie can get. But Tar is maybe my favorite movie of the last 5 years and one that I find myself thinking about constantly. Gotta go with the proven staying power though.
