  Glad to see that Pedro Almodovar and spanish cinema is in the final 64 , but very sad to realize who is the other one in the bracket with him. I liked "Talk to her"much but it cannot match the experience I had watching "Mullholland Drive"for the first time, fascinated by visuals and a plot that got me baffled and stunned all at once like few films have.Pedro and David , probably the 2 most aesthetic directors of the last 4 decades, they both deserve to pass this round, but we all know who will.

  When I look back on my high school years, the years when I discovered cinema, three viewing experiences are always vivid in my memory, as moments when I changed my perception of life and the meaning of cinema for me (in order of my viewing): Mulholland Drive, Ratcatcher, Talk to Her.

  I saw the last of them on his last return to high school, and he revealed to me a new way in which the heart can break. A way in which there is also healing alongside the pain, a way that is an opening to compassion and understanding, even for those who commit unimaginable acts. While watching the film, the beauty of love and the cruelty of existence unfold simultaneously.

  I write these words on a difficult morning. After waking up early and seeing a news report that seemed to shatter all my hopes and beliefs. There have been many such mornings recently. The ability of films to envelop us in human darkness, to condemn violence but also to reveal understanding and create places of hope is more necessary than ever.

  In the face of the war that surrounds me, how important can a lost love story of a fictional character be? It is important because remembering it lifts me from the tears. It sends me on another day when I must believe that there is still good in life, or at least in art.

  The same is true of the film in this match-up.
