Brutal. I'm pretty sure these were both my number 1's in their respective years. I usually lean bleak in my movie choices, but I'm going with heart on this one. I think it's what I need in the U.S.' current state of affair. Let's keep Sunshine please!

I will be both crushed and elated at whoever wins and whoever loses this matchup, both such fascinating movies about manufacturing hope from emptiness and despair. I voted for Children of Men because of, well, the state of things, and wanting that kind of hope for resistance and the possibility of renewal at a macro level, that's just where my head is at.

These are all very easy to vote for. I make lists for every year, and even for the 2000’s and 2010’s overall. This was the only one where I paused for a second. I loved Eternal Sunshine when it was a movie preview. It didn’t disappoint. One of the most innovative imaginative movies since Persona. So I guess that means ever. Might break out the DVD later today
