I feel tremendous privilege - I started my independent advisory practice at age 46 in great part to live my values (one of which was smelling the roses) and I moved to the Bay area at 49 as that's where I wanted to live. Subsequently I moved to Barcelona in 2024 where I continue to do the work I love. My big advice for decades has been "If you don't like your reality, change it!" When people say they're jealous I moved to Europe, I retort, don't be jealous, do it. Life is short, we all need to try to make it a ride we can enjoy while helping others do the same.

It's extremely difficult to get through your twenties which are mostly college grad school and low paid jobs, then figure out how to get to 50-55 having had family, kids a career and have enough money to genuinely take care of all your responsibilities & walk away from the career you know to do something else. But if you can that would have been ideal. I'd love to go several other non HC related things but without FU money in the bank and with continuing responsibilities to family & kids I can't. That's my only regret (other than snowboarding into a tree & smashing my knee up in 2002!)

I've had many careers from formulation chemist to banker to Epic manglement consultant. I've traveled many parts of the world (4 continents/22 countries/49 states), balanced personal life, financially secure, mountain climber, and continuously volunteering soul
regret: not marrying the one woman the universe put right in front of me. It did it on purpose, it said " Bob, this is the one, this is the only one"
