I work at home so I pretty much always listen to something during the day. If I have to do something that requires all my attention though, I will turn it off.
I love it. The final is considerably faster than the Betas or Alphas. My biggest (and probably only) complaint at this point is that, due to the new stupid Volume Controls, I can't unmute the output for Line-In or Mic inputs on my computer. This is important because I use that input for when I play video games using my Xbox360 connected to my monitor.
i love it please bookmark this page in digg or mixx because I can find it easily
Great article:) thanks for your sharing this information
You guys do a great website
Always, but my company holds that public music is somehow legally out of bounds so headphones are allowed and I always use one at a time so I can hear whats being said. I never expected to see so many yes' :D It must be true whats they say about music helping you work.
Music does distract me from the task at hand a little bot helps me go all day.
Based on your story in comment 4 I would say that it is clear that as high up in the source order as possible is the correct place. To be honest it isn't something I have given a lot of thought in the past. The most common placement seems to be in the footer, and I have generally followed the herd on this one. I'll have to change my wicked ways!
Any site that needs an accessibility help page and instructions probably isn't very accessible to begin with. Accessibility should happen naturally and transparently.
Sometimes I can, sometimes I need to focus too much to listen to music...

Music/podcasts/newscasts are necessary to drown out all the jerks that think their cube is a meeting room or their own personal disco. However, to avoid being a jerk yourself, use headphones. If you have to answer the phone, place it in fron of you so you can see the light blinking.

Pandora all day long!

I need to do it as the ambient noise / chatter is disturbing to me. Having some liow volume music is enough to keep me concentrated on the work at hand.

I'm a full-time telecommuter. I could listen to LOUD music all day long and no one would care! Do I? Nope. I'm a programmer, but I'm also a musician. When I have music playing, even in the background, I find I start paying too much attention to it, how it's put together, the interplay of the instruments, the interplay of the tune with the lyrics, etc. I just can't seem to get away from it enough to get any real work done!

I usually listen to Audio books, unless I'm out of them, or bored with the ones I have, then it's music. As a window cleaner this is easy to do.

I have noise canceling headphone. Unfortunately I can't turn the music up loud enough to drown out my co-workers.
Yes, I'm really ADD and need music to concentrate. I'm much more productive with music. I only listen to Pandora, I couldn't get by without Pandora.com

To be honest, I find it way too distracting. I do listen to some music between breaks though. :)
