I voted yes but only because the question pertained to War. I don't think he does for an air strike like this.

Technically, yes, only Congress can declare war. However, Trump did not need congressional approval for a precision strike. Read Article I, people!

I agree that the question was not asked properly. I’m not undecided. If war is declared YES but to do as he did this past weekend NO. HE was within is constitutional right to do so.

While voting yes, I concur with the other respondents that the question cannot be answered with only a yes/no answer. Without the authorization of President Trump to strike, the US would be ultimately playing defense at who knows the cost. The strike doesn't declare war, rather an offensive move.

I said unsure !
Why ! With the likes of People in our house like Biden . And Obama the half Black illegal Muslim that catapulted this into a nuclear warhead attacks By giving billions of our money for Iranians to create this nuclear power And Biden bringing them in by plane as well as the border. Why . They have vowed for over 46 yrs to not only kill Israelis But they have murdered Americans and are here to do that job Thanks to every democrat voter and politician . And they all including congress knew what we knew about Biden. As well as about Harris the Illegal. Who lied about being black. Shows no one could trust her And not one pushed to remove the demented man Every thing he did should be removed We didn’t elect his staff
And in today’s climate of evil running loose in America And Congress sitting on their anus. Doing nothing about the judges they allowed to run rogue. And democrats putting them and they are pure unadulterated morons . And Republicans are not the best to stand for Americans . Career politicians who sell democrats their votes and tell Americans to go to hell. This is Not new ! When Republicans hold all 3 chambers Americans get screwed every time I doubt there is a decent honest person in the entire government I know there’s not one that serves the God of Heaven Their fruits are showing And Satan is happy they are his children.

The question can not be answered with a yes or a no considering the events of the past few days. The targeted strike on Iran did not require Congress approval. And I believe, that if he proposed a defined number of additional days to strike, he would be allowed to continue. However, if the US wanted to continue with a prolonged war, then Yes, Congress would need to authorize it.

The President can only declare war with approval from Congress. But to do a strike like out President took against Iran is not war. There are plenty of examples of this type of bombings including with this President.
The propaganda from the opposition is overwhelmingly misleading and they cater to those who didn’t care about learning during government class. ????

At the time the war powers act was instituted, Congress was given the sole authority to declare war. That was in the seventies when we could count on Congress to work with each other to do the right thing. Putting this highly sensitive and secret mission before a Congress that can’t seem to agree on anything would surely have jeopardized this mission. Trump did the right thing and should be praised and not criticized. Let’s hope the ceasefire lasts.

For Actions that need immediate attention it was used by Clinton Bush Obama Biden and now Trump. So now because it’s Trump it’s making rules. I agree with everyone above. He did not declare war, he helped destroy what Iran was not supposed to be inritching uranium.

To declare war yes the president needs congress. To strike a target to diffuse the making of a nuclear bomb no, he can act alone! And the democrats in congress know this!

I think it is a poorly worded question and thankfully the people above gave it clarity.

To declare war and commit troops YES . To take necessary steps for the safety of the country. NO There is no way he could have kept this secret by going through the Congressional Process????????????????

Josh is correct! I said War Powers Act, but it was a Resolution.

From what I have seen, Trump actually used his Constitutional War Powers Act. He gave Congress notice of his intentions within 48 hrs. He did not declare war. He just did a military operation to help our allies and the US. Had he wanted to go to full out war with Iran, per the Constitution, Trump would have to go to Congress and ask for permission to go to war. More people should really read the Constitution. Trump has more power than people think, per the Constitution.

War Powers Resolution of 1973:
This resolution was passed in response to the Vietnam War, aiming to limit presidential power to commit troops without Congressional approval. It requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of deploying troops and limits deployments to 90 days without Congressional authorization.
Many ways to do this.

Trump is Commander-in-Chief and has the right to do what he did in Iran to defend our safety. I believe to declare a full-out war, he should have the support of Congress.

This current action was not a declaration of war. It was a stealth action to protect America and its allies. Not the same thing! CinC has every right to accomplish.
But War? Might be that congress should have a say? (Though I detest the current left leaning Rs and the Ds in capital now.)

A stealthy, necessary, eradication of targets that present danger to us would be impossible to keep secret while trying to get it sanctioned by Congress. I don't believe that to be a declaration of war .. war is more that a single event.
