I think prayer should be taught but I also believe that if you look at history. This country was founded by predominantly Quakers who fled British persecution. If you are not Christian that say prayers from your religion.

I say yes but to a very limited extent. The basics like the Ten Commandments. When I went to public school we had voluntary Bible Study Classes. Which would be a great idea to get back into. We had current events, home economics, shop, typing and computers. we pledge allegiance to the flag every day and in Elementary School we sang God Bless America and My Country Tis Of thee! We learned how to address. an envelope (LOL)! How to write out checks. I know some of it (or all of it) is old fashion, but it was the best! I work on a school bus, and I see what these kids are lacking! It's a shame! So, I say YES to teach religion in schools and more!!!!

There are schools all over the U.S. allowing Muslims to take breaks in the class rooms to leave their rooms to pray to their g-d. We need to teach the foundation of Our forefathers and whey we are a Constitutional Rebublic. The 10 Commandments need to be taught throughout the K-12 so all who live in thje U.S. we learn to follow the law. Good Christian Schools teach of other theology’s. In order to live peacefully together, we need to understand where we come from and where we could end up very soon. I personally live and trust in the word of God.

Religion in public schools? That is why we have private Catholic Schools and other denomination schools. I went to both when I grew up in Brooklyn, NY: 10 years (K through 91th grade) of Catholic school and my Sophomore through Senior years in a public high school. Religion is too controversial to be put in Public Schools.

I voted yes because at least the 10 commandments can be displayed and then be taught. If a denomination wants to teach classes in high school they can teach students either before school starts or after school. But I feel all grade schools should teach at least the 10 commandments.

Teaching about religions and their existence, along with the diverse teachings within each, should not be a problem if it is done fairly, straightforwardly, and without bias toward any perspective. Just like any other subject, would be approached with different and multiple points of view, ensuring fair and unbiased interpretation. However, this doesn't seem to apply to colleges, as we all know it's impossible for them to be fair and unbiased. Colleges don't teach anymore; they just indoctrinate and brainwash.

I am so old we had not religion taught as a class course but opportunities to join Bible Study AFTER SCHOOL. Of course we had awesome things like rifle club, archery club, agriculture club,,,during school we had pledge of allegiance daily. We still had Baccalaureate before graduation. The classes for shop, small motors, home economics which had separate sewing courses, cooking, general meal planning and shopping. That taught us budgeting,,, Then too we had actual typing classes. Now I am not sure what public school teach. I know Private schools do have the best though not all can afford THAT privilege.

We have seen what has happened since we took God out of schools and everywhere else! God definitely needs to be brought back!

Christianity is the religion that America was built on. Just like Muslim nations only teach Islam, we should only teach Christianity. It's our heritage and what made America so powerful.

The Bible can. Be used alongside History curriculum because it teaches about many of the wars and Kings and kingdoms that are taught in ancient history. If you have not studied the Bible, you would not be aware of the running comparison.

  • Lsnider - 3 months ago

I voted no because we have different religions so it's not the school's place to decide which one gets taught but for educational purposes to make children aware of the different religions for my view it should be taught from a historical to a current perspective.

The fact that this poll is almost a 50/50 split right now is troubling. People want morality in government but not in schools?? The original McGuffey readers, which were used in public schools as late at the 1960's, contained Bible verses and strong moral values. In fact, if you look back in history, the Bible was one of the standard issued school books until 1963 when the supreme court ruled mandatory Bible reading in school was unconstitutional. When God was taken out of schools is when our nation started to decline as a whole. It starts with our youth.

The 1st amendment to the US constitution starts with “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;…”
This shouldn’t be complicated. That’s why it’s wise that the federal government NOT dictate curriculum, standards… and education be determined by each state, or perhaps even each community. Doesn’t “free exercise thereof” include students in schools? Look at what’s happening in Michigan, where they have students praying to Allah, etc. I don’t like it, but they have that right.

I had to vote no, not because I wanted to but because I know the absolute can of worms that would be opened up by liberals and lawyers. They have already made a mockery of our Christian beliefs as well as our laws and our American culture. Do not give them more ammunition to continue their evil work.

Religion should absolutely be taught in schools, but not indoctrination. How could history be studied without learning about religions? When I was in school, we studied about civilizations and their religions, significant events that were based around religious beliefs, both ancient and modern. How could you study the founding and development of our country without the religious beliefs from the pilgrims and forward.
I don’t think the Bible, Torah, Quoran, etc needs to be taught cover to cover, but basics and significance should. It would have to be studied to understand history.

I am a Christian. If we allow teaching religions than we cannot separate any and all religions. If we teach Christianity than we teach Islam, Hindu, Buddhism and yes even Satan worship. We are founded upon a Judeo Christian believe but we allow all faiths to practice. It is there first amendment right. This is not to say we should not allow Prayer in schools. I believe we should, but we need to allow all even if we do not agree with them. Having a course in world religions where all al taught this would be good with some exclusions IE: lying is never good, cheating to gain power is never good and mutilating young girls is wrong I do not care what faith that is. Not in the Untied Staes anyway.

Our country is founded on a Christian background. I believe we should teach Christian values. I would be strongly against teaching other religions as many of those don't support Christianity. That holds especially true for the Muslim anti Christian beliefs.

  • Jan Lilley - 3 months ago

What religion? If you teach one, you must teach them all. Even some you may not approve of. Religion should be taught at home. Islam, Wiccan, Mormon, etc are some I can think of that I would not approve of being taught.

  • Jody - 3 months ago

I think religion should come from home.

  • Truth59 - 3 months ago

I said yes, but to clarify to teach an awareness of other religions that they might not learn at home! I had a Minority Literature class in HS, and I remember having to go to a church service and sit through one. It was all very interesting! Satan must be mentioned, naming all of the POS in and around our Gov't who probably are a part of that whether they admit or not, like F and G! Have both liberal and conservative teachers so they get different views.

  • Elaine Bausell - 3 months ago

Yes, the Bible was the first book used to teach from. It should be in our schools God is our Heavenly Father and Jesus died for our sins. Our country is falling apart because we have turned away from our Heavenly Father. Our public schools are a mess.

  • Elaine LaNou - 3 months ago

I do think it should be!
When I lived in England we had religious studies I wasn’t a Christian at the time - it wasn’t “shove it in your face” it’s history! I am now a believer; I do think religious studies should be taught but not “as a push” but as a history lesson! If that makes sense! I live in Oklahoma and I don’t agree with the Bible being in the schools as how do you draw the line? Just my thoughts!

  • Clare - 3 months ago

The Christian Bible should be taught in schools and be a required curriculum for graduating seniors. The Old Testament is history and the New Testament teaches students how to live a moral life. That should not violate the church and state issue. Hopefully when New Testament is taught students will be introduced to the son of God

  • Lois kleinkauf - 3 months ago

If the 10 commandments are posted on our federal buildings I see no reason why they can’t be posted in public schools. It would be terrific if everyone was familiar with them.

  • Pat - 3 months ago

It’s a very slippery slope to be honest. Yes, it might fix the issue in this country but I agree that you’re opening up a can of worms. They will force other regions to be learned also which can be confusing to young people. So I’m thinking no, but just to protect them from evil.

  • Heather Garrison - 3 months ago

I voted yes, but limited to prayer in school. A class like civics, but mainly about America's founding documents, and how the Bible aka jadeo-christian principles, are incorporated into those documents. This type of class would be appropriate.

  • Annie - 3 months ago

I voted no, but, the question is too limited. I would want a small amount such as a morning prayer and maybe a class for those that want it, we had it when I went to school many years ago.
The problem is the democrats would insist on all other religions also, I would Not be happy with certain other religions. The Muslim religion would include ShariaLaw because to them it is part of their religion. The world is not as it was many years ago and this could cause a very slippery slop.

The history of religion world be ok. However if teaching a religion you open the door for others, like satanism, to demand equal time. Even if you tried just teaching Christianity, there are thousands of different Christian groups in the usa all teaching their own interpretation of the Bible. Keeping general enough to not upset one group or another could be tricky.

Since inflation out paced income so much that mothers had to work to help support the family our society has degraded. Taking prayer out of school was a part of this degradation. Now children live in homes where parents are tired just trying to survive. With no time to teach morals or values our society is decaying. I have witnessed this happening for 70 years now. I said all of this to say Yes. God help us before it is too late.

Christianity should be taught based on the founding fathers beliefs

  • Jann - 3 months ago

I have finally found my answer to this incredibly important question. After a few of hours of thought I’ve decided to vote YES! However I’m of the belief that should include other TRUE religious groups including Judaism, Muslim, etc. I DONT BELIEVE that ANY so called/fake cults/organizations should have the same rights! I think what they’re claiming as “religious freedom” , they often are not truly secular groups only disguised as such, adversely affecting families with their destructive views.

At the very least, the Christian religion should be taught through study of the Bible as a historical document. History bears witness to the truth and accuracy of the prophecies found in its pages. It should also be taught how biblical truth is in so much of the founding principles of our nation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. We have honored Him through much of our history and only He has been the one who has blessed it.Those who deny Him have faced judgment all through history. Returning to Him would safe us a lot of heartache. A troubling concept of mine is that the concept of a personal decision for every human being is needed to gain eternal life and avoid an eternal hell, but this truth cannot be taught in public school. The onus falls on the fact that not everyone believes, so therefore major opposition exists. The enemy of our souls is ecstatic over these kinds of things. Another detriment is that if Christianity is allowed, then the opposition will certainly demand other false religions be taught. There are many ifs, ands, and buts, but even if just taught for the historical significance, who knows what the Holy Spirit could do to soften people’s hearts and turn to Him. Only God can heal our nation. We think we can separate or compartmentalize our lives, such as a separation between church and state. God created it all. Everything is laid bare and open to Him. He gives us the air we breathe! Not a single atom is out of His control. He must laugh at our ignorance and arrogance.

  • Kim - 3 months ago

Be very careful to keep it separate, Christianity is not the only religion that will be taught. Keep it separate and families choice not the educational system, they are already pushing an agenda we didn’t want.

  • Audrey Lamar - 3 months ago

I absolutely think they should be teaching about Jesus. I feel if they can teach in sex education etc about all kinds of sex including anal and same sex. About Satan, then Jesus and prayer should be included

  • Mary Speakman - 3 months ago

There are too many different ones. But they should allow a silent prayer time in the morning to start the day . But they should absolutely be teaching the pledge of allegiance. And singing songs like God bless America. My Country ‘‘tis of thee..and the Star spangled Banner.

  • janice beckham - 3 months ago

There are a lot of different religions it would be difficult to teach each one. I vote no it should not be taught in public schools. Schools of a religious private teaching then yes . I went to a catholic school then public school where I took religious classes on my own .

  • Monica - 3 months ago

This country needs to get back to our foundation. We all do

  • Alyce Larson - 3 months ago

It should not be taught but must be permitted to be part of a student’s life.
