Stop the interest on the loans, give them a break. I paid off my daughter's loan I wish I could get a break

I think the student loans should be lowered and without interest. My son, 25 years ago had to pay back a student loan to become a pilot. Back then it was $40,000. My husband and I took out a loan and paid it back. It was a Freddie Mac loan. The interest was outrageous, and that why we took a second on the house to pay it off. If a person goes to school they should have to pay for it, The Universtities should lower the cost of going to school so that it is more affordable to all who want to go to school.
It also teaches the student responsibility.

All of my 5 children paid their own debts. Government needs to keep out of teaching/ sending the wrong message to the people. It encourages people to depend on the government to solve all their problems and we, the people should not have to be burdened with any more debt. This country needs more citizens to be responsible for their own actions!

I personally know a young man who got a 4 year degree in biochemistry but couldn't get a job. So he joined the army to be able to pay off his student loans. He was responsible for his debt and didn't shirk his liability. He found a way to pay them off. I feel bad because I believe the costs of higher education are overinflated and not worth the charges. Especially when the graduates can't get jobs or jobs with minimum pay. I think it should be the colleges that need to change their thinking and charging, especially when they aren't teaching anymore but indoctrinating. High schools should be looking at blue collar job training more than pushing for college. The plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, etc. all have great programs where the students learn and work at the same time as apprentices and make decent wages with benefits.

I say NO because I was raised to believe that if you borrow money/load you need to agree to terms and pay it back, no bailout, no whining about your finances. It's called RESPONSIBILITY, something younger people know nothing about and bailing them out will just encourage them to make more bad decisions in the future and expect someone else to bail them out when they get in trouble.

Hell no! It says a lot about the character of the individuals that even remotely think about accepting such an offer. These individuals are the dregs of society. I bet that not one of them that had someone borrow something of substantial value from them would ever consider forgiving that individual of the debt. These people are users and not doers. They have a character flaw that they feel that they have no obligation to abide by the terms and conditions of anything that they agree to. Whether it be financial, marriage or friendship, they will always disappoint the entity with whom they engage. I will make one exception to my position. If an individual finds themselves in a debilitating medical condition and are incapable of earning an income, 100% of the time, the loan should be forgiven. If you know anyone who is fully capable of paying this student loan debt, but weasels their way from willingly repaying, distance yourself from them. They will eventually do you wrong.

I have a very close family member with student loan balance. (Big ). Has not had a job since leaving college that would cover living expenses much less loan payments. I still feel this person is responsible for the debt. Although all that was learned was how to be a snowflake. It hurts to admit this but this person was not raised this way. It only took 4 years to undo a conservative upbringing.

I am normally against these student loan forgiveness programs. However my daughter has been a teacher for 25 years & has been paying on her bachelors & masters degrees all that time & still owes thousands! She works with other teachers who take ONE token class a year so their loans stay deferred. They have NEVER PAID A DIME on their loans!! The system is at fault because you should only be able to defer loans for so long before you HAVE to start making payments.

Those that took out the student loans and will benefit from the loans should be held responsible for the repayment, and not American taxpayers.

Some of the practices in these loans were unfair. I have said for a long time they to be rewritten to make some semblance of value instead of screwing the student. .
