What primary role should HIMSS choose to maintain or increase its business success?

Unfortunately, HIMSS has lost a lot of its luster in recent years. They also created some friction during the COVID years with their ;non-refund' policy. That does not engender ongoing trust among their constituents. However, I agree that their are multiple roles that could be successful. The education and certification provider and research and benchmarking authority roles come to mind

These are not mutually exclusive. I could see three of them being complementary. Education, research and policy.
Or maybe just go back to where it all began in 1970, Just plain old HMS. Health Management Systems Society, which was started by Hospital Management Engineers to foster the reduction in hospital operating costs. Ah, the good ol'days!

It’s disappointing that “improve healthcare cost, quality and access” isn’t a choice, but HIMSS, along with other well-known trade associations, is primarily about business growth.

Seems like a good org for vendors to come set up displays.
