Hey JEFF, this list was put together by people who recognize the painstaking work that these small businesses do to share their stories with you through food. Curious how many restaurants on this list you’ve actually been to? This is what I don’t get about Portland. Have your favorites, by all means, but why is the approach more often than not to tear down anything in sight that we don’t like or agree with?

Some of the best food I’ve had in a while! Properly prepared and crafted with care!

Estes is a refreshing place with, Chef Patrick McKee makes sure he stays true to his Italian family traditions. Great place to eat and have a great cocktail by Ben Preacher. Can’t wait to be able to sit on their patio this summer!

Cena is probably the best Italian I've ever had, Don Guido's on the mountain was very good, but Cena always delivers the best for food and atmosphere.

Whoa, how did this list of contenders get put together?

A Cena is the hands down best pasta in Portland. The agnolotti is phenomenal and you won't find anything better. The pasta is fresh and handmade, the owner travels to Italy to find new wines to serve, and delicious just doesn't even begin to describe their food.

I’m Italian, just moved here in Portland area since last September. At Campana restaurant I ate the best Italian pasta ever.

A Cena is without a doubt my go-to restaurant any time someone is asking me for recommendations, whether they are seeking Italian, a date spot, special occasion, a quiet bistro. A Cena is that unique place that can meet all these needs with a delicious menu, fantastic staff, and wonderful service. It's kept me coming back year after year since they opened. I cannot say enough great things about this place.
And, if it's your first time going. You'll want to try the agnolotti. You and your taste buds will thank me later! Hands down a dream of a dish.

A Cena, without doubt. Not just the best pasta in Portland but the most delicious and inventive pasta dishes I've ever had, regardless of city. There is always a new dish; with combinations of flavors I'd never imagine. A must for any true pasta lover (or just food lover.)

Hats off to everyone that made the list, but there is one clear winner, 20 years, staff of 100, they got their own frickin GARDEN across the street, events galore led by the best Event Director in the whole goddamn city, 3000 bottle expertly curated wine cellar with some of the rarest, most coveted allocations, not to mention bottles a Level II Certified Sommelier could never imagine I.e. volcanic Rosato from the cinders of Mt. Etna!? You kidding me!? Handmade EVERYTHING, locally sourced, menu changes daily, the OG spot is ALWAYS a nice place to be, but if you haven’t been to the new spot next door, Enoteca, you are in for a true Memphis Milano inspired design epiphany.
NOSTRANA has it all, style, sophistication, story, execution and most importantly everyone CARES about their craft and customers to the maximum! HELL! I think I’ll go there tonight for their Bolzano inspired feast if I can snag a spot! THE ITALIANS even gave them a Buon Ricordo Award last year, and if that doesn’t impress you.. Well? I guess nuthin will!

Cathy … outstanding dining atmosphere and service is on point. She has onsite gardens producing fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables. Her daily rotating menu with solid staples offers a new experience for each visit. And the pizza! Oh the wine program ????
