When I was up for a colonoscopy, I checked prices in case insurance pooped out on me (pun) like if they claimed it needs to be part of my deductible (because I had a recent positive Cologuard, and good luck trying to find SPECIFICALLY what will be covered). Prices appeared in the 3-5000 dollar range for the local hospital systems for colonoscopy. Luckily insurance covered the vast majority of the 15,000 they submitted to my insurance! Nothing special, snipped two things and sent for biopsy (negative) for a couple hundred bucks I had to pay. I worked in hospital healthcare and I will be the first to say the US insurance system needs to go.
So in my case, looking up prices was worthless to estimate what I might have to pay.
I am very recently retired and have to pay for insurance the next year until Medicare, and the online tools and available "coverage info" are absolutely laughable. I believe they leave coverage info sparse and vague to deny coverage as they please. I plan on not getting sick the next year while I shell out 1000/month for nebulous coverage.
