Problem gambling often exists in secrecy from family members who often only find out when there are major losses such as a home, car, 401k or loan sharks start knocking at the door and ceaselessly phoning. The crisis often brings about the dissolution of the family. The affected spouse is often left penniless. The children are reduced to living on welfare and crushing poverty.
If the State of Massachussetts promotes gambling that causes these social problems then they should provide assistance to family members who are affected by the fallout of problem gambling.
