Yes, particularly as edited. But if I'd hit those craft issues mentioned later and this was a book I'd picked up off the shelf to read, I would have put it down.
Personally, I have yet to nail down when it is "overwriting" and when necessary description. I wouldn't have thought twice about the gas engine (as opposed to an electric trout motor I suppose; could make a difference. Maybe the hero will tap the gas tank for a few drops to start a fire, I don't know...).
