Could functioning democracy be a choice?

The response options are somewhat limited, for instance, an option for "political angst" or one for "stupid people" would offer greater polling perspective. This one should really be re-done, it has such great potential for insight.

Last year at this time I was in day 18 of a 43 day ICU hospitalization with ARDS. It’s all gravy so my happiness is driven by contributing and being here and present.

While external factors (work, money, events, etc.) may impact happiness at different times in our lives, the biggest factor for our overall happiness is always mindset. At a basic level, happiness is a choice. See and celebrate the beauty, joy and good in the world (it's out there!). And reach out to help others in need whenever you can - you'll be happy you did!

My only comment would be control of my time can be an obstacle to happiness - schedule drives things.

Perhaps this falls into the category of "stress, anxiety, or my own mindset", but I see it as distinct from that.

The main thing affecting my happiness is the current state of the nation. It's never easy to deal with uncertainty but the level of chaos and potential for cataclysmic events is frightening. It's bad enough that some of them are weather related and outside our immediate control. Others are worsened by destructive shifts in policy on climate change, public health, and scientific research; setbacks in these realms will take decades to reverse. But equally gutwrenching is the level of hatred and cruelty that has been unleashed.

As a boomer, my days are numbered. I survived internship when it meant 80+ hours a week, 36 hour shifts, and every 3rd night on call. Until my time comes, I can talk myself into surviving whatever else transpires. That being said, the younger generations deserve better -- my heart breaks for them.

People who won't acknowledge they have an agenda and hide behind their narcistic philosophy of deflection.
