So.. how come that the best japanese sport car in the poll is not even featured in the magazine?

And... what was the point on mixing non-sportscar with sportscar? (since when is the EVO an sportscar?)

  • A Real Real Sports Car Owner - 15 years ago

Seriously, does anyone believe the "SCCA" dude? 2 NSXs but you bothered to slum it down to a couple of Evos for a period of time? Ditched a GF because she drove an S2000? If we actually take your story for real then I guess we have to conclude that you don't believe in doing research or test drives; you just go out and buy the car to see if you like it. Seriously, get a life pal.

As an S2000 driver, I can say they are great cars but in no way are they the best Japanese sports car ever. For all the haters out there who think you need to be gay to drive a roadster, stop trying to make the car you drive an extension of your dick. People who drive S2000s do so because they like the car for a variety of reasons and anyone who has driven one can attest to the fact that they are a fun drive. They are also reliable and have a low cost of ownership which makes them even more attractive.

While I feel the S2000 is totally undeserving of Best Japanese Sportscar, it is utterly ridiculous that the Evo should have 2nd place in this poll. The Evo is a fast, capable car. It's also an ugly econobox that has been fed a diet of steroids and crank. It is the low-cost alternative to a real sportscar with questionable build quality who's primary market is 20 somethings who want to street race. Saying that the Evo is the pinnacle of Japanese Sportscar making is like saying that Dragonball Z is the pinnacle of Japanese literature. Really people, get over the fact that it's fast and cheap and look at the car as a whole.

The NSX is a great car (mind you I have never driven one) but let's face it; it did not compete in terms of speed with other cars in its class (the above $80K almost a super car class). It never really caught on and so I don't really think you can give it top honors there.

In my mind, there are three cars here that compete for top honors of best Japanese sports car: the RX7, the Z cars and the Supra. All of these cars have fine lineage, distinct styling, good build quality and very good performance. I think one can argue about what the order is for the top three, but when compared with the other cars on this list, I think these three stand out.

  • Moe - 15 years ago

I voted NSX. Japanese sportscars don't come much better than that. The MX-5 was a close second for me though.

I have to point out that some of the poll choices aren't specific enough. For example, "Nissan Z cars?" That's a pretty wide variety of cars ranging from the originals to the ZXs, up to the current line. All the generations of EVOs and STIs are also unfairly lumped together. Each generation has its own distinct flavor. I'd never vote for an EVO X, but would consider the EVO VI.

  • Dave - 15 years ago

To sportscar, are you a pussy? lol sounds like it.

I have had an Evo and an S2000 but I would say my new Camaro SS beats the shit out of them both. I would vote the Supra it's a far better car than the rest.

  • A real sports car owner from the SCCA - 15 years ago

sportscar: Lol not at all, lol. My life is great. Nice attack though, I guess. Kinda a candy ass huh?

Ron: Nice way to break it down. A pleasure to read.

    me: Good point.

Enthusiast: What track do you go to? Sounds like your just full of crap.

  • Enthusiast - 15 years ago

I had to stop myself from laughing at "Ron's" comments. He obviously doesn't have any experience with any of the cars.

I grew up around Supras. I've driven a ton of them, as well as it's little brother, the MR2. The Supra "was" the performance king in it's day. If you go out to a race track today, you will see Evolutions and STIs running rings around the Supra.

The Skyline, I unfortunately have not had a chance to experience, so I cannot say. From watching time attack results and seeing them on track, they are impressive. But $80,000 better perform damn well. Unfortunately, it's also priced too high for us mere mortals.

The S2000 and current Evolutions have so many votes because they are both awesome cars in their own right. I own both, and they have their place. The Evo is the brute force, accelerating, braking, and turning harder than anything short of a Porsche. The S2000 is also a handling wonder, and looks awesome. It's is lacking in the braking and torque, but will dominate in mid corner speeds.

Ron needs to stop reading the rumors spread throughout the car forums. My Evolution is my daily driver, has racked up over 120k miles, and is still boosting 23psi all day. I swear, two or three dumbass kids break their Evos back in 2003 and it becomes a widespread fever. "The Evos are breaking, the Evos are breaking!"

The S2000 is not as floppy as people think convertibles are. It is very competent and give great feedback.

  • me - 15 years ago

S2000 and Evos should be CUT, disqualified already due the CAR FORUM WARS ...

    :P

  • sportscar - 15 years ago

"The S2000 does not handle well, the chassis flexes"

Another clueless person bashing S2000 though he has never even driven one.

And the hypocrite calls others "ignorant".

  • Ron - 15 years ago

The name of this poll is "Which is the best Japanese sports car ever?" not "Which cheap ass piece of shit do you own?"

Wow! Who are the tools that seriously think the S2000 or the Lancer is the BEST Japanese sports car of all time? Seriously!?

How freaking ignorant do you have to be to think that? The S2000 is slow, underpowered, doesn't brake well, makes no torque at ALL, does not handle well, the chassis flexes and it is far too cramped inside. The only quick S2000's have Supra motor swaps. (No making 350hp in fully built, turbo charged an S2000 is not quick, it is still slow, if you think otherwise you are just clueless).

They EVO is better than the S2000, yes, but they have reliability issues, and are also very slow unless you modifiy the crap out of them. The power train has weak points, and they do not accelerate, brake or turn as hard as the GTR or Supra. The EVO's biggest problem is that it is still a Lancer. You get a better motor, and an AWD layout, but you still have the cheap poor quality interiors, body panels, and soft twisting chassis.

In terms of bang for the buck the EVO is a great value, and offers a lot of bang for the buck, but it is far from being the "best Japanese sports car ever".

    Without a doubt..

The Toyota Supra and the Nissan GTR are hands down the best Japanese sports cars of all time. Since the 1970's to current both platforms have always been the only Japanese sports cars that can compete with world's other sports car platforms in the global market.

In the 90's though 2009 the MKIV Supra TT ruled the day. Setting the bar so high that to this day this nearly 16 year old platform is still one of the best handling, accelerating, braking, and stylish Japanese sports cars. Think about that... 16 years later and very very few cars can touch what the MKIV Supra did in 1993!

Now though there is a new top dog, the 2009+ Nissan GTR. No other Japanese sports car even comes close, Hell most 150k + supercars come anywhere close to posting up the performance numbers of the GTR.

All of that.. World class super car performance, decades of absolute dominace and you morons vote for the S2000...

    *sigh*

  • mf110540 - 15 years ago

I’ve never heard of so many a$$ holes on one forum. Everyone is voting for the car they more than likely have owned and driven. That means you’re compassionate about what you have chosen .To put down somebody else’s car is childish. All the cars listed are good vehicles. It all depends on your taste. So suck in your pride and just be glad your car is even mentioned.

  • sportscar - 15 years ago

Are some people trying to complete their evolution as human beings by purchasing cars with the name "Evo"?

And I have a question for the guy who wrote:
"I have never owned a s2000, I am not gay."
    How insecure are you?

  • Peter - 15 years ago

I've raced all the mentioned "sports" cars. For overall money, reliability, modability, and just plain "ABILITY" The four door Evo wins.

It's not as good looking as the NSX, or FD RX7, but go track the cars and you'll see whey those damn Evos always own most of the races.

Of course, everyone will have their own opinions, but results speak for themselves.

  • supra guy - 15 years ago

Yeah Supra all the way... if you had one you would know why.

    Supra Twin Turbo or RX-7

  • Supra lover - 15 years ago

Yea the supra is the best... hands down

  • A real sports car owner from the SCCA - 15 years ago

Well I have been on tracks almost my entire life and owned alot of cars. Muscle and sports cars.

I have had 2 NSX's one turbo and one supercharged after I got it stock. Both of these are nice looking and over priced and well every slow and low. A cool car to look at and hate if you live in SoCal like me.

I have had 1 RX-7. It was an R1 and yellow. So a hard to find car that was a sports car. Great feel and I would take it over any honda car made. But it will tap out the power at 650rwhp.

I have had one Honda Integra Type R. It was almost stolen one time when I went to dinner. And it revs nice and does not corner and well very slow. Just junk really.

I had 2 EVO's, a 9 and 10. And well the STI is far better. A EVO is junk. Slow and costs a ton to mod and just crap. I got the 10 and thought it would be better but it was not. The seats are nice and thats all.

I have never owned a s2000, I am not gay. I had a gf that had one and I did track it. What a slow pile of crap. I dumbed her cause I didnt like seeing her s2000 in my driveway.

I have had 2 Skylines. I R32 GTR when and a R34 GTR that I just sold. These are only wanted cause of the hype. In Japan, Canada, and AUS they tell it like it is, the Skyline is just a car. I have had 2 GTR's and the 32 was better for the track and the R34 got more attention but in the end the motors, RB26's are junk. They break all the time and cost a ton to fix and are a pain to work on. The Skyline GTR's are just kid cars for gamers. When you own one you will knw the truth about the garbage they are.

I have owned and still have both my Toyota Supra's. They are both MKIV's. And they both never break and run hard as hell. They do so well on the track its just too much fun. Double wishbone on all 4 corners and a hell of a body. I am a leg and ass man and the Supra has one hell of an ass. One of my MKIV's is auto the other 6speed. The auto is a car I used daily and the 6speed is my track car.

So to bring this to an end, I can say this after owning alot of cars off this list. The best Japan Sports Car is the Toyota Supra MKIV TT. Simple.... a far 2nd would the the R1 RX-7...

  • EMk20 - 15 years ago

I can't sit back and look at all of the ill informed comments on this thread. I have read "the boxster is the poor man's porsche" and all kinds of other bashing on the S2k.

"poor man's porsche", come on have you ever driven ANY 997?? There is no poor mans porsche, infact the 997 boxster S may be the best bang for the buck out there (yes even with the 50K+ base price and all of the other insanely priced add ons)

All of the cars listed are great cars, I have driven quite a few of them. Saying that it is the owners who are boosting the results is sort of a dead end arguement. Isn't that the way the poll should go, if the owners are happy then they will, and have the right to speak out.

From my perspective as a member of all kind of forums and a fan of every car out there. I have seen people come and go from all kinds of cars. The thing that really impresses me with the S2k is the amount of people who go from that car to higher class cars (911, GTR, M3, etc.) and come back over and over. There are folks that can afford anything and have bought everything and they just can't get enough of the underpowered, razors edge handling, flat out most precise shifting, car out there. To me, that coupled with the price range, just makes the S2k an easy choice for the pinnacle of Japanese motoring.

  • SChamp - 15 years ago

FIRST OFF, WWW.S2KI.COM HAS THIS ON THEIR FRONT PAGE, AND THEY GENERATE A WHOLE LOT OF TRAFFIC, SO MOST PEOPLE THAT GO ON THAT SITE WILL BE BIASED, AND THAT IS WHY S2000'S ARE ON TOP VOTE RIGHT NOW....I HAVE HAD 2 S2K'S IN THE PAST, AND THEY ARE GREAT CARS, BUT NOT THE BEST JAPENESE CAR EVER!!?

THIS POLL IS BIASED TO BEGIN WITH, IF YOU WANT REAL VOTES, THEN IT SHOULD BE DIRECTED ALL ALL TYPES OF CAR PEOPLE, NOT JUST S2000 LOVERS....

    2CENTS.

  • S2GAY - 15 years ago

S2000 ROFL, ok if you're a chicka but in a mans world, torque is everything!

  • s2k ghey - 15 years ago

The s2k is for girls. The acura nsx is way better. Most people buy evos because of the performance and mod. ability not because its pretty. Most girls love the s2k and hate the evo.
Most of the s2ks i see have a girl driving or a wrinkled old man.

  • Jim - 15 years ago

First of all, the RX-7 should have WAYYYYY more votes, like in the top 3!
Also, the WRX and EVO should not be on this list, because they are hyped-up econoboxes...not sports cars. They lack class, and no amount of performance will give them that. My vote goes to the S2000 because I drive one and love it. But you can't deny other greats such as the RX-7 (one of the best looking cars ever made, anywhere), as well as the MR2, Miata, and Z. I'll put the Supra in with the 3000GT. Powerhouse engines, but too heavy and bulky to be a sports car - more like grand tourers.

  • FI+S2k+NSX=NO$4Food - 15 years ago

I would venture to say that most of the people trash talking the S2000 and Evo haven't actually owned one or the other.

I've never driven an Evo their styling just doesn’t appeal to me but I do own a turbo S2k and NSX. Although the NSX is an awesome car I fell in love with my S2k. Ridiculous handling, absolutely suicidal power to weight ratio with a 12psi blower, and aggressive stance and style the S2000 gets my vote hands down.

Maybe I’ll change my mind and purchase an Evo when I have kid and need the extra room but don’t want to compromise performance.

  • 240z - 15 years ago

    mitshubishi are chick cars
subaru are just plan silly looking
supra is ok. i feel over rated
    hondas are weak and lame
    mazda cars are unreliable
240z are by far the best and most sexy. way ahead of its time. The rb series motors are slightly modified version of the 280zx turbo engine that came out of the early 80's. The engine blocks are easily capiable of 500+ hp. so in my opinion the Z family wins hands down.

  • pfft - 15 years ago

If heritage makes the Z the best, then why not mention previous S roadsters? Those were around before the Z cars.

Does Nissan have any F1 heritage that influenced their cars?

  • z32 - 15 years ago

    1. Nissan Z cars- They didn't ask which was the fastest or best handling they asked which car was the best. The nissan Z's have a lot of herritage. They imo started the whole japanese sports car scene. They do also pack a punch in being fast and the handling department.

    2. Supra- Sexy car, is powerfull and has one of the strongest engines.

    3. Skyline- Doesn't look all that special compared to some of the other cars but it is probably the fastest car on this poll. It too has a strong engine.

    4. RX7- Good car the only downfall is that the engine starts to take a shit on you at around 100xxx.

5.- the rest in no particular order but the gtr and nsx would probably be closer to the top.

and jesus dont get start on how evo's are better. there not even sports cars. the only reason they have more votes is because all the owners voted for it. im pretty sure thats how it is for every car the owner votes for their car. it just so happens that there are exactly 39589742309574205974 evos on the road. same goes for s2000's. except they are a little more sportier than evo's but not by much.

  • dave - 15 years ago

j's racing s2k is a monster at the touges enough said.

  • pfft - 15 years ago

Also, let's get this right, once and for all:

The Supra is not a sports car. The GT-R is not a sports car. Granted, they are both close. They can certainly be called sporty cars, or sports coupes. True sports cars they are not. Hell, they could probably be looked at as race cars in some configurations and race events. Some might call the GT-R R35 a supercar.

The Evo is DEFINITELY not a sports car. It is most certainly a sports saloon/sedan and passes as a rally car (obviously). Most of the other cars on this list are not sports cars.

Cars do not need to have large displacement, high trq/hp motors to be considered sports cars. They do not need to be very fast race cars to be considered sports cars. Many of the classic British sports cars didn't have a lot of power, but they'd turn on a dime and do it at a higher cornering speed than most.

There are many things that go into the definition of a true sports car. Taking well to tuning and/or having a powerful stock motor was never one of them.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

Lots of the comments here are stuck on a monoculture of torque, torque, and more torque. There's certainly more to a car than that. Some of us would prefer to acknowledge it without making all kinds of irrelevant comparisons that continually consider one part of a car rather than the sum of the whole. The S2000 and Elise for example aren't the fastest cars out there, but their engine performance is well matched to their handling characteristics, and the cars focus a lot more on the whole driving experience than most cars do. If we're really talking about sports cars here, this ought to be considered rather than brushed aside.

  • pfft - 15 years ago

"the s2000 may have a rigid chasis, but it looks and functions like a super poorman's porsche boxster or like an elise. Both cars are nice around turns but are greatly underpowered."

I don't see any of the s2000/miata/elise/boxter people really caring about that. If you enjoy going fast in a straight line in a Supra et al, more power to you. Some of us don't, and you don't need to have a Corvette or a Viper to have a fun & great, "real" sports car (granted, any of us would love to have a Vette or a Porsche I'm sure).

  • EVO ALL DAY! - 15 years ago

Evo hands down for affordability vs power ratio, not to mention how easy it is to make these babies balls to the walls fast!

  • s2000hater - 15 years ago

In addition, compare track times between a Supra and a S2000 below (done by independent testing of stock vehicles). Note that Supra is hte j-spec one which is 40hp less than the American version

    http://www.fastestlaps.com/car458a7dd85127d.html

    http://www.fastestlaps.com/car47a7331336095.html

  • s2000hater - 15 years ago

the s2000 may have a rigid chasis, but it looks and functions like a super poorman's porsche boxster or like an elise. Both cars are nice around turns but are greatly underpowered. Have fun at the auto-crosses gals. Try any tracj with a straight and you will see how underpowered the car is. Btw the boxster is a poorman's porsche, which in turn makes the s2000 a rather mediocre car. No s2000 can compete on a road course with the real sportscars (vettes, vipers, porsche, ferraris, etc.) unless you build the motor and go forced induction.

It is a decent car but not worthly of being japan's best sports car. In America, one of the best challenges is the One Lap of America where cars compete in numerous track events over a 2 weeks span. No japanese car other than the GTR r35 and the Supra has seen a top 10 finish. In fact the the Supra has placed in the top ten since its production and just recently in 2007 against more modern cars.

  • taylormade - 15 years ago

Why are people mentioning throwing £5000 at a car to make it go fast and the end of the day i thought this poll was what the cars were like when they were produced from the factory??!!
At the end of the day there is a handful of cars out of that list you could throw £5000 at and get more than 500bhp your points have alot of flaws in them!!

Just a rally car lol HonDUH Killa, how many S2K's run constant 11's or 10's in a straight line? Thats what I thought. S2Ks Equal old balls cars, torqueless gutless sacks or biznatch! Might as well buy an RSX

Do they give out scarfs when you buy a s2000 because it comes factory as a convertible? Please, not a Japanese super car..."

I like the other cars you talked about, but I can't help but think you probably haven't driven one of these cars after reading this. Also, power is not the only thing that makes a car. I doubt those 600-700hp Supras are much more than drag/highway/dyno queens. I mean, don't get me wrong. The supra is a great car and all, but it's narrow-minded to knock on roadsters when a true car enthusiast, while knowing what he likes specifically, can appreciate all cars no matter what they're good at, be it rally, road, autox, highway, or at the drag strip.

  • Anything but an evo - 15 years ago

Of course the organisers of this poll, after all the votes have been collected, and to be fair, will weigh the votes by how many of each mark was produced, so the evo will happily end up with a weighted average of about 1% and the likes of the rest much much higher, interesting to see how this pans out! Looks like the S2000 which is a thorn in the side of just about all evo owners will end up with an actual 50% 0f the votes!

  • Anything but an evo - 15 years ago

Why would any body want to drive a car that is shaped like a turd? Go fast stripes hide that a bit i must admit, but really guys, its not a sports car, will never be, all right for gravel roads though, but this poll is not about rally cars, or is it? And who said a car needs to have roof to be stiff, like formula 1 cars, caterhams, durr wake up pal and get yourself a real car!

  • pssh - 15 years ago

s2ghey - nuff said. The only reason why there so many votes because all of the owners are voting for them. You see them everywhere! They drive like a toy and therefor are accepted as a toy. Do they give out scarfs when you buy a s2000 because it comes factory as a convertible? Please, not a Japanese super car...

evo - Evo owners get over yourselves. You guys have the biggest f-ing ego's ever. You are the ones on the freeway revving your engines doing the ol' cat and mouse by yourselves next to my car while I am doing a constant 60mph. The car is a great car don't get me wrong but I would rather buy a STI since the looks are way better which don't have such rigid edges that don't flow. Just like the s2000 owners, you see evo's everywhere. Like the new civic.

Supra- Good lord that car is sexy. I had pleasure of riding in a MKIII that had 500hp vvti 1JZ-GTE and the acceleration is unmatched. Also ridden in a 600hp supra with stock block and that's why they put a oh shi*t handle in those cars. Yes is a heavy car but it is a Japanese Muscle car, just like the Muscle cars in the US in the 60's-70's, don't turn as well as a corvette but they do haul ass. Can't touch them on the highway- end of story. I am not even going to start with the looks. The style is timeless, when was the last time you driven past one and did not look (even stock)? I drive by evos, civics, s2000's and glance. Not amusing to me to the very least. The comment about the turbo spooling at 6500rpm... please... that's why they have standalone engine management systems. What other engine can you mod getting about 700hp out of the block without modifying it (block I mean)?

nsx- fast aluminum bucket. Exotic and fast for a v6. Still not my cup of tea. Looks are lost in the past.

Zcars- the History of the Z cannot be matched. Great cars I must say.The looks to this day still resemble its heritage in the past. No complaints except the 300zx tends to over heat because of the engine layout. If that issue was resolved from the factory then it would be up there on the list.

Skyline- Good lord... The only car that has the engine that out performs the 2jz-gte in the Supra. Better flowing head. ITBs and a twin turbo set up. AWD... good lord. Looks are not timeless but still a fantastic car. Capable over 1000hp easy like the supra. And just like the supra, a couple of bolt ons and you are pretty much at 450hp. What other can do that? s2000? no. Evo... eh I think not. NSK...no.

RX-7- probably the best handling car on a rwd platform. The only issues with this car is that it is underpowered and the engine's apex seals are fragile. You see yourself rebuilding the engine shortly after 100k miles. Still a Japanese super car.

So all in all on the Japanese super car list top 5 it would be this...

    1. Skyline
    2. Supra
    3. RX-7
    4. NSX
    5. Z cars

6-20 - other cars in no particular order.

    You guys are desperate.

Anyway, the S2000's frame goes down the middle of the car. The way it was designed, it doesn't need a roof for rigidity. Google s2000 x-bone frame and educate yourself.

S2k might be slower in a straight line but it will be faster than your Evo in a corner (not that the Evo is slow in a corner; it's not, especially right after exiting the corner). Not everyone drag races/street races. Either way, both are good cars. They're just built for different purposes.

  • the dude dont know shit - 15 years ago

Dont kno what im talking about?? you don't. When something has 4 corners and nothing in the middle, that equals less rigidity then a solid square or roof. How can something solid flex more then something hollow?! besides that s2k are really slow and they have been on the market for a few years. Evo has been IMPROVING on its model since 1992. The evo 1 had more power then the latest version of an s2k and weighed less. watch this video. How does the EVO1 beat out the nsx (on the list) and r34(on the list) and the first gen impreza???

"The s2k is a convertible!!! convertibles suck, the have no rigidity. s2k are also super slow, and its one model that hasn't even been out long and the models never improved."

You really don't know what you're talking about.

  • evo guys are cheating too - 15 years ago

    So who cares?

  • s2000 ARE CHEATING - 15 years ago

The s2k guys are cheating!!! Look at the numbers. I was watching and there vote went up 30 in 1 min! Stop cheating. The s2k is a convertible!!! convertibles suck, the have no rigidity. s2k are also super slow, and its one model that hasn't even been out long and the models never improved. How can that be better the All evos 1-10??? The EVO 1 would DESTROY any year s2k.This vote is ridiculous.

  • CJ - 15 years ago

300ZX, Supra!? Please, now those are cars made for fat yanks.

S2000 FTW! It handles like a go kart on crack. Its an uncompromising drivers car. The fact you have to keep it in the power band makes it a much more involved experience.

Yes, it might not be the fastest in a straight line, but who cares? Does the roof come off your car?

  • BIT IT - 15 years ago

Evo's own all of the state side cars!!!! S2000 lol how many tanks of NAWSS does it take to make those POS go fast! Honda FTMFL

  • me again - 15 years ago

ALTHOUGH I might say, Evos are UNBELIEVABLE cars ,,, but still, not quite "there" ....

  • me - 15 years ago

    Please, it goes like this:

    1) NSX (including nsx-r)
    2) Nissan Gt-R
    3) FD Mazda Rx7
    4) Supra
    5 and bellow, THE REST...

This is more a car forum fight than anything ,,,

    Oscar

  • wow - 15 years ago

Having your head stuck halfway up that's Evo's exhaust makes the car go faster and handle better. You should keep it there.

  • cobrafang - 15 years ago

Oh yeah, the supra is gnarly, 300 hp and it weighs a TON. Are you guys living under a rock?? The EVO9 has 300 hp and it is way lighter. It will out handle anything on the list. You guys dont know shit. Who decided a sports car is a 2 door 2 seater?? YOu guys are living in the old days. An evo with $5,000 in mods can hit 0-60 in 3.5 sec. What other car can do that?? That s2k is the worst. ZERO TQ= ZERO FUN Who cares that it revs to 9000?? My goal is to get as much power as soon as i can. Your always playing catch up. The s2k is also unmoddable unless you dump tons into it. The reg nsx isnt even fast. The evo 1 had 255 HP and was SUPER LITE. It wouls smoke a stock supra. 350Z are slow as hell. they change that fucking VQ engine every month

  • scumdog - 15 years ago

Why do you guys keep making retarded comments?? The nsx the best handling car?? REALLY?! a mid engine rwd car? i bet you couldnt even handle that car. Also, someone said the s2k was the best handling? There is NO WAY, ANY of those cars out handle an EVO. It has been proven over and over again. Yeah supras are great, if you spend thousands on them, install a giant single turbo that spools at 6500rpm

  • Benyon - 15 years ago

Abit funny all them s2000 votes, I voted supra because I own one and its the best car I have ever owned. I think the top ones are - Supra, RX7, Skyline, NSX and ofcourse the Zs. Whoever it is voting the EVO must have only drove an EVO because there is so much better out there.

  • funkysi - 15 years ago

I voted for the Z car range. They are what really kicked off the whole Japanese sports car era, with the two best models, the 240Z and the Z32 300zx Twin Turbo being their finest models. Both at launch were streets ahead of their counterparts. Out of all of the above, they have the most heritage.

I also have a soft spot for the NSX

  • tof - 15 years ago

Many of the cars listed aren't even sports cars. The Supra and Cosmo are GTs and the CRX is a sporty compact 2 seater. The Skyline is a Japanese muscle car. The ITR and Cileca are sport coupes. The WRX and EVO are sedans. The NSX and GTR are semi-exotics. Not sure WHAT the RX8 is although it does handle nicely.

All are good cars and some are great cars but only the Toyota 2000 Gt, Miata, and S2000 are true sports cars although one could make the argument for some of the Z-cars and most of the RX7s. Given those choices one could easily argue that the purity, simplicity, handling, decent power, and drop top of the S put it at the head of this smaller class.

  • Vinny - 15 years ago

The S2000 is nothing in your book ONLY IF you haven't driven one. It has razor-sharp handling, best gear box on the planet, and one of the funnest cars ever made (as claimed by Car and Driver too).

  • john tunner the 3rd part 2.4 - 15 years ago

why does the s2000 have so many votes. its nothing in my book.I vote the z cars all day

  • flyer1 - 15 years ago

    Go S2000! Best drivers car with it's screaming 9000 rpm 4cyl. 2.0ltr!

  • AT - 15 years ago

S2000 FTW, it handles better and is as fast as a Z and for those who say it isn't they are prolly still playing with match box toys. 9000RPM redline and the best handling car on the list makes it a complete win from all angles.

  • sandeep - 15 years ago

Where would any of the japanese sports cars be if the 240Z had never been created? this car put japanese sports cars on the map and the z car will always be a car remembered by car enthusiasts.
I voted for the z car series. if i had another vote i would be voting for the nissan skyline gtr, the car nissan designed as the ultimate road going group A race car.

  • Hello Im SIC - 15 years ago

    Honda Shit

  • wes - 15 years ago

the s2000 only has rwd going for it? it's probably one of the best handling cars on that list. other cars might have more performance but going fast in a straight line is less interesting than going fast through sharp curves.

  • Jorge Rufin - 15 years ago

Seriously why does the s2000 have so many votes? The only thing this car has going for it is that it is rwd. Personally if were talking about best japanesse sports cars lets look back at the Nissan 300zx TT and the Supras and rx7's as they were japans finest cars IMHO. They were ahead of their time both in styling and performance. In the 90's these cars were spanking alomst every us domestic muscle car stock vs stock.

  • 2jzul8tr - 15 years ago

Supra is a great choice for best. The engine it brought to market is still considered one of the most durable and reliable motors to swap into just about anything. The power levels over stock with stock bottom end are unmatched to this day.

Name any other motor that can put out over %300 of it's stock delivered power and continue to do so reliably time and time again.

Supra brought to market over built components and engine that became generally known as the small block of japan. If you doing a swap or driving a supra the 2jz has to be considered near the top of your resonable list of choices.

  • SJ - 15 years ago

And how do you know you can spam the poll Azbola?

  • your_all_wrong - 15 years ago

If your talking about all around best then its hands down the nsx. If you have driven one then you will understand.
It beats an e46m3 in straight line speed.
    It out handles prettymuch ANYTHING
    It looks beautiful
    low maintenance
and theres still somuch room for upgrades.

  • Hindu - 15 years ago

Well, this is not well designed poll . You can't put all EVO's in a bunch, or any other, beacuse half of them was crap, or not too competative at least. If you talk of drive thrill - 4wd's dont have anything to look there. It must be RWD. There is NSX or 350/370Z or S2000 , and i would give a Zed a edge beacuse it's a proper sportcar with big engine and it's lot's quicker than S2K, and much cheaper than NSX ( and not THAT much slower )
And if you talking about speed - GTR eats them all for breakfast, don't need to be a doctor there hahahaha

I think GTR is the best, not only among Japan cars, but generally speaking

  • martin - 15 years ago

Evo's & Impreza's sports cars???????????????????????????? too many seats and doors ffs. Timme to look at the choices again.

  • Azbola - 15 years ago

This would make more sense if you couldn't just spam the poll as many times as you like...

  • Keancy - 15 years ago

I am not Fat nor American and the Supra is by Far the best looking, most Reliable, sleekest looking Car I have owned. Even after 18 months of ownership it still makes me smile and scared every single Day.

  • MrZippo - 15 years ago

lol NSX-R wipes them all away, so why is the standard NSX in the poll and not the NSX-R???????

  • James - 15 years ago

Whoever thinks the Supra isn't the best Japanese Sports car ever needs their head examining. I've owned an R34 GTR, NSX, Turbo'd Integra Type R, several Impreza's and a tuned Evo7.

None of them compare to the Supra, sure some may have individual points that top the Supra, but the Supra has a bit of everything and is the complete sports car package. It's utterly reliable, tuneable beyond belief and to this day doesn't look at all dated. I would have another one in a heartbeat!

Best Jap car ever made, no question about it.

  • God - 15 years ago

    Really?
Is that why the design of the supra has been imitated over and over again?
Not just by Japanese cars but cars from all over the world.

It was years ahead of its time.
Had more power that most cars couldn't match, had the looks that NO car could rival.

If it wasnt for the Supra, there probably wouldn't be any decent sports cars out there.

  • Bradster - 15 years ago

Stop voting for the Supra! Yes, it is a great car, but it's overweight and compromised. It cannot be the greatest as Japanese sports cars were all about sharpness, technology and attention to detail. The Supra was a blunt instrument designed for fat Americans.
