Well said Larry. Let there be no mistake about it, 9/11 happened because of the failure of our Federal Government. With all the enemies of the American government, precautions such as airport and airline safety were never implemented. One could say that hind sight is 20/20 though countries such as Israel have long had safety measures in place.
One can not over emphasize the importance of maintaining a moral authority especially while fighting those who have none. Be assured, that those who are charged with carrying out the security of our nation have had their hair up on their backs. Many a threat has been squashed since 9/11 through dillengence and not the cowboy mentality of our past administration.

Want to tell a little story here. I was at a so called "Christian Church" one weekend and ran across a lady who took offense to a statement I made to a friend about George Bush. I told him that GB was a perfect example of what conservitives can do to the US with leadership. Conservitives can do know wrong in there eyes. They are conservitives first, AMERICANS second. They believed all that GB said. They put GB and God before anything else and would not waver. She was so outraged. I laughed at her and she started calling me a baby killer for my abortion rights of leaving it up to the mother. She tells me that she can't have children and many like her could adopt these children instead of aborting. So I told her, I prayed for you and god told me that YOU would of been a bad parent and that is why he wouldn't allow you to have children. She went besirk. I laughed again and asked her why her god is different than mine? I told her that a belief in God is what the person wants to believe. She wants to believe her way, I believe my way. Well, that ended that as she stormed out.

What the CIA did was illegal, according to United States law, International Law, and the often-here-maligned Geneva Conventions. If you remember back to fourth grade, to which most of you ostensibly went, you will recall that the legislative branch is responsible for making laws and the executive branch for implementing them. Why we should prosecute - and not just the officers and interrogators, but more importantly all the way up to the executive office - is because the Bush administration not only broke the law of the land but also lied about it, effectively breaching the constituional separation of powers.

If we are a nation that only respects our laws and Constitution when times are good, then we are not much of a nation at all. For all the silly claims about "the terrorists winning", truly the highest measure is that if we cannot stand for our own laws, for the international treaties we have signed and supported, for our Constitution, then the terrorists have won. If laws were broken, those who broke them should answer for it. If that includes the former Vice President or President, then so be it. We have one set of laws, not two. One Constitution, not two.

The cover up, and bogus legal advice is suspect. Crimes should be prosecuted. We have a process of having "independent prosecutors" to prevent this problem, but the Bush administration decided that they would rather investigate themselves and *gosh* they decided that they didn't commit a crime. How many criminals would be convicted if only their partner-in-crime was the district attorney?

Very well said Jim D. Any american with common sence knows that the Bush Administration used every means possible to " SCARE " us into believing we needed THE WAR TO HAPPEN. To this day, I still don't understand the purpose. What good did it do? I know it broke us money wise and got us where we are today. They say it helped keep us safe. Wouldn't it of been better if they would of just locked the cabin doors in a plane or scanned for knives, guns or any weapons that could be brought aboard a plane? We haven't been attacked to this day because of things we have done in our own airports, not because we are fighting a war in Irac!!! And where is our repayment from them? Why not take a few million barrels of oil a week to help pay the cost of the war. Bring our gas prices down, stimulate our economy with whatever windfall profit we can make from it. Obama, et al, should be made to take "capture" training in any of the military services. They should be made to participate in an "interview" hosted by any of our "detainees." If a Republican had done what he did the media and the Democrats would have castrated him. He was drunk and cheatig on his wife when he drove that car into the water. He didn't report it until the next morning because he needed time to sober up and to try to come up with a good story. The autopsy showed that the wwoman did not die of injuries sustained in the accident but that she drowned which means when he left her in that car still alive. These facts can be checked if you doubt them.
Now you watch how fast they use his death to try and convince the people they should change their minds about the healthcare bill to honor him. They are aldeady talking about naming the bill after him.
Instead of probing the CIA, how about looking into the extent of president Obama's ties to Acorn, and all the other companies that are tied to it?

The only problem you have with the poll is that it doesn't agree with your views. This poll is far mor honest than the big polls because the big polls devide the people in thirds-1/3 Democats, 1/3 Independents an 1/3 Republicans. This gives the Democrats a define edge because the Independents usualy lean even farther left then the Democrats.
polling with 1/3 Independents is also dishonest because only 17% of Americans are registered Independents so when the polls are done the number of each party polled should be done by a percentage of the registered voters that truely represent the people but the people doing the polls are in fact Inependents or done by universities and we all know how unbiased they are.

The International Red Cross (IRC) has informed both the Bush Administration and the Obama Administration of their findings in regard to the treatment of prisoners in the custody of the U.S. Their determination is that there was torture as defined by international law and treaties we are signatures to. We as a country have always adhered to IRC finding when it came investigating and defining torture in other international cases. If we hold other countries and individuals to that standard, then we should be able to meet the same standard. While it may be shameful and difficult to do, we must admit our short comings. I do recognize that the people who were harmed by the U.S. are not seen with much value, I do not hold them in high esteem either. They are individuals that have no regard for American lives, American laws, or international law. I do however hold this country in high regards. As a result I have high expectation. If we be a "Rule of Law" country then we must practice that law when it is most difficult to follow and easiest to look away. We must keep our legal bearing and moral high ground if we are to remain a world innovator and leader. I know that some of these events took place years ago and it is easy to say that is water under the bridge. Yes, we could just move on. Then what happens the next time our moral and legal compass is challenged? We must show those in the government that they are not only responsible to create, interpret, and enforce the law, but are also accountable to it. I do agree with many here that the CIA agents are not appropriate targets of an Justice Dept. investigation. Front line individuals are all to often the fall guys for very poor and ill defined policy. They more often than not are trying to the best of their ability follow the ill defines and obscure guidance they are given from their chain of command. These policies are often left vague in order to give the chain of command "plausible deniability" In this case based on the evidence I am aware of, I believe that to be true here. While the CIA interrogators/contractors violated international law (as define by IRC and previously recognized by U.S.) they were ordered and encouraged to use ever harsher techniques by individuals within our government structure. In order to prevent future governmental indiscretion we most importantly need to hold accountable the architects of thus torture program. I know many will question, do you mean prison? If the investigation finds that there is a prosecutable offense, then yes, prison no matter how high up the chain of command. I can hear some already asking, what about national security? Wouldn't you, shouldn't you we willing to do anything to keep this country safe? My answers is: I will do everything I can within the limits of the law up to and including laying down my life for the safety of this great nation. My hope is that this investigation will not lead to the over politicization of this questionable time in America's conduct, but rather lead to a return of "Rule of Law" at all levels of U.S. society. The perfect example is when I was working high-end security during the hotel strike in San Francisco almost five years ago. Because of the "lockout" situation, anyone entering the hotel needed to show their room pass card. Apparently, this was a great inconvenience for some people and occasionally, an educated idiot would invoke "The Spanish Inquisition" simply because they had to show it at any entrance. Now remember, they're going to have to take it out sooner or later to get into their room. I tend to notice "patterns" within thought processes of people. It helps keep me alive in my trade.

As a three time veteran of the Iraq War and directly dealing with insurgents who have done everything from testing cyanide on innocent iraqis to al qeada members who make car bombs may I just say this. This current administration worries me because they seem more interested in protecting the rights of people who can no longer be viewed as human due to what they have done to their fellow man wether the be muslim or christian then going after these people. I am personally worried that they will gladly sell out our Intelligence professionals for some perceived notion that it will help improve the image of the U.S. in the world. Yet the thinsg that have hurt us the most when it comes to our image is how we have politicians who will cut and run and sell out our allies or potential allies because it is the easy route. Just look at what we did to the Iraqis through out the 90's or the south vietnamese in the 70's or the Somalis in the early 90's. This has hurt our image and trustworthyness the most. This administration seems to be out for show over substance while crippling our country and everything it was based on

You know, maybe we should ask the folks who frequent the places that were targeted but kept safe by the means used to get information. It's amazing how often people talk of the rights of these detainies. All I can simply say is that if these methods saved one U.S. life, then I am comfortable with what was done.
I simply wonder how many persons will still be against the waterboarding after the next attack. Unfortunately this time the attack will be in one or more of our major cities and it will simply be carried out by a person who is carrying a nuclear bomb that fits in a breifcase. To be honest I wish I were joking but the only questions I have are where and when?
It is amazing how easy it is or one person to cross over into our borders. The Fence would help if the construction were continued. The input of additional hiring for the Border Patrol and having National Guard units and our armed forces assigned to protect our borders.

what I would like to see investigated is the sale of missile guideance systems and technology to the communist chinese by president clinton. the results were that the communist chinese producted a missile which could reach the US with a nuclear warhead. also the communist chinese first nuclear powered sub. this sub has either 10 or 12 missiles on board with nuclear warhead with a range of 4500 miles. this is a direct threat to the USA. what ever the CIA may have done was done to protect the USA and its citizens.. there is a difference. We need to stay focused on healthcare or we'll be spending trillions on that mess. This investigation is a witchhunt. It's foolish and wasteful and extremely dangerous. The President is opening our country up to further terrorist activity and demoralization with the overt attempt to make the Bush admin look bad. And, he's creating precedents that could damage the Commander in Chief's ability to accomplish anything in the clandestine or military services (for fear of future prosecution by a future president). Laws are laws. If they are broken, then justice needs to be served. If it goes all the way up to Dick and Dubya, well, too bad.
And, before you assert that "only foreign terrorists need to be worried about it", I will assert that, if this type of policy is permitted, then it will set a very, very dangerous precedent for our future, It will be only the first step... soon, it will become routine. Hmmm.. Lets see. The CIA and their contractors extracted information that clearly and demonstrably prevented attacks on Americans by roughing up these animals who routinely behead enemies of Islam. So naturally the current administration decides to prosecute the heroes who protected American and siding with the terrorists. And we are expected to believe that Holder is doing this without the consent of Obama??? What color is the sky in these people's world? He has made a career out of going to foreign countries and apologizing to them because the previous adminstration kept us safe. The second amendment was included specifically for this scenario. Implicit in that ammendment is the promise to use those weapons to defend ourselves againt a government that tries to enslave us. Don't Tread On Me!

Seems to me the Legislature decides if torture is illegal. The Justice department merely investigates.

With all the enemies of the American government, precautions such as airport and airline safety were never implemented. One could say that hind sight is 20/20 though countries such as Israel have long had safety measures in place.

Want to tell a little story here. I was at a so called "Christian Church" one weekend and ran across a lady who took offense to a statement I made to a friend about George Bush. I told him that GB was a perfect example of what conservitives can do to the US with leadership. Conservitives can do know wrong in there eyes. They are conservitives first, AMERICANS second. They believed all that GB said. They put GB and God before anything else and would not waver. She was so outraged. I laughed at her and she started calling me a baby killer for my abortion rights of leaving it up to the mother. She tells me that she can't have children and many like her could adopt these children instead of aborting. So I told her, I prayed for you and god told me that YOU would of been a bad parent and that is why he wouldn't allow you to have children. She went besirk. I laughed again and asked her why her god is different than mine? I told her that a belief in God is what the person wants to believe. She wants to believe her way, I believe my way. Well, that ended that as she stormed out.

What the CIA did was illegal, according to United States law, International Law, and the often-here-maligned Geneva Conventions. If you remember back to fourth grade, to which most of you ostensibly went, you will recall that the legislative branch is responsible for making laws and the executive branch for implementing them. Why we should prosecute - and not just the officers and interrogators, but more importantly all the way up to the executive office - is because the Bush administration not only broke the law of the land but also lied about it, effectively breaching the constituional separation of powers.
If we are a nation that only respects our laws and Constitution when times are good, then we are not much of a nation at all. For all the silly claims about "the terrorists winning", truly the highest measure is that if we cannot stand for our own laws, for the international treaties we have signed and supported, for our Constitution, then the terrorists have won. If laws were broken, those who broke them should answer for it. If that includes the former Vice President or President, then so be it. We have one set of laws, not two. One Constitution, not two.

Has anyone bothered to hear testimony of senior FBI investigators with regard to interrogation of terrorist subjects? They got reliable information with donuts! They harsher treatments often produce statements of what the interrogator wants to hear. Hence, we are back to what Cheney wanted in order to substantiate their invading Iraq. The other bozo was interested in getting Sadaam. Afterall, he "tried to kill his daddy". He (Bush Jr) said it, not me.
The interrogators probably should not be prosecuted if they were given legal advice that what they were doing was within the law.
The cover up, and bogus legal advice is suspect. Crimes should be prosecuted. We have a process of having "independent prosecutors" to prevent this problem, but the Bush administration decided that they would rather investigate themselves and *gosh* they decided that they didn't commit a crime. How many criminals would be convicted if only their partner-in-crime was the district attorney?

The International Red Cross (IRC) has informed both the Bush Administration and the Obama Administration of their findings in regard to the treatment of prisoners in the custody of the U.S. Their determination is that there was torture as defined by international law and treaties we are signatures to. We as a country have always adhered to IRC finding when it came investigating and defining torture in other international cases. If we hold other countries and individuals to that standard, then we should be able to meet the same standard. While it may be shameful and difficult to do, we must admit our short comings. I do recognize that the people who were harmed by the U.S. are not seen with much value, I do not hold them in high esteem either. They are individuals that have no regard for American lives, American laws, or international law. I do however hold this country in high regards. As a result I have high expectation. If we be a "Rule of Law" country then we must practice that law when it is most difficult to follow and easiest to look away. We must keep our legal bearing and moral high ground if we are to remain a world innovator and leader. I know that some of these events took place years ago and it is easy to say that is water under the bridge. Yes, we could just move on. Then what happens the next time our moral and legal compass is challenged? We must show those in the government that they are not only responsible to create, interpret, and enforce the law, but are also accountable to it. I do agree with many here that the CIA agents are not appropriate targets of an Justice Dept. investigation. Front line individuals are all to often the fall guys for very poor and ill defined policy. They more often than not are trying to the best of their ability follow the ill defines and obscure guidance they are given from their chain of command. These policies are often left vague in order to give the chain of command "plausible deniability" In this case based on the evidence I am aware of, I believe that to be true here. While the CIA interrogators/contractors violated international law (as define by IRC and previously recognized by U.S.) they were ordered and encouraged to use ever harsher techniques by individuals within our government structure. In order to prevent future governmental indiscretion we most importantly need to hold accountable the architects of thus torture program. I know many will question, do you mean prison? If the investigation finds that there is a prosecutable offense, then yes, prison no matter how high up the chain of command. I can hear some already asking, what about national security? Wouldn't you, shouldn't you we willing to do anything to keep this country safe? My answers is: I will do everything I can within the limits of the law up to and including laying down my life for the safety of this great nation. My hope is that this investigation will not lead to the over politicization of this questionable time in America's conduct, but rather lead to a return of "Rule of Law" at all levels of U.S. society. People who invoke "The spanish Inquisition" irk me, for they know not what they speak. The perfect example is when I was working high-end security during the hotel strike in San Francisco almost five years ago. Because of the "lockout" situation, anyone entering the hotel needed to show their room pass card. Apparently, this was a great inconvenience for some people and occasionally, an educated idiot would invoke "The Spanish Inquisition" simply because they had to show it at any entrance. Now remember, they're going to have to take it out sooner or later to get into their room. I tend to notice "patterns" within thought processes of people. It helps keep me alive in my trade.

As a three time veteran of the Iraq War and directly dealing with insurgents who have done everything from testing cyanide on innocent iraqis to al qeada members who make car bombs may I just say this. This current administration worries me because they seem more interested in protecting the rights of people who can no longer be viewed as human due to what they have done to their fellow man wether the be muslim or christian then going after these people. I am personally worried that they will gladly sell out our Intelligence professionals for some perceived notion that it will help improve the image of the U.S. in the world. Yet the thinsg that have hurt us the most when it comes to our image is how we have politicians who will cut and run and sell out our allies or potential allies because it is the easy route. Just look at what we did to the Iraqis through out the 90's or the south vietnamese in the 70's or the Somalis in the early 90's. This has hurt our image and trustworthyness the most. I myself, have been accused of being one thing or another (opposite of what I truly was trying to get across) for the same reasons. The truth behind it is there has to be a happy medium OR one side has to be able to convince the other side to change or compromise. In this regard, we need to forget the past.. people did what they thought was right under the most extreme situations. As I mentioned earlier, we're all arguing this as Monday morning quarterbacks.

To assert that torture is justified, and to allow "our side" to perpetrate acts we've prosecuted and executed people from other countries for doing... what kind of backwater, Third-World country do you think this is? Laws are laws. If they are broken, then justice needs to be served. If it goes all the way up to Dick and Dubya, well, too bad.

He has made a career out of going to foreign countries and apologizing to them because the previous adminstration kept us safe. The second amendment was included specifically for this scenario. Seems to me the Legislature decides if torture is illegal. The Justice department merely investigates.

He has also been a reporter for what is considered a Liberal newspaper in a large metro area for over 30 years.
He is constantly being acussed of being a FLAMING LIBERAL in angry letters (mostly unsigned) whenever he REPORTS news stories. He is not an EDITORIAL writer and his editors do not doctor his work.
