I have a U-Pass, and before that I had an employer program pass. They're great because they only need renewal once a year, and (since it's once a year) your employer/university gives you a lot of notice to come pick up the new one.

It was a Sunday. My spouse and I had gone from downtown Vancouver to Costco on Production Way (before there was one downtown). We picked up our biweekly groceries and were on our way home when I realized that it was the 1st of the month and I hadn't purchased my pass yet. We were both traveling on what I thought was a monthly pass I bought. We got to Broadway and went to purchase one at the drugstore but they wouldn't take my credit card as they have a 'no credit card policy when purchasing bus passes because they are at a major transit hub'. Luckily I had my bank card with me because I had no cash, not even enough to buy single tickets.
