I would have to say mine.

Okay, first things first. The reason Rachael Ray sucks is because she's telling people who don't know any better that the secret to a good meal with minimal preparation is taking shortcuts (flavor packets? Cambell's soup?) Instead of developing skills to work quickly with fresh ingredients.

For instance, those packets and soups are crazy-high in sodium yet still taste bland because of restrictions with the canning process.

A smarter magazine (Cook's Illustrated) will tell you how to make your own broth (or stock if you have time) for soup, and how to prepare it for freezing so you can use it later with maximum taste and minimal prep time.

In effect, she's teaching lazy casserole design. It's akin to teaching a child how to text instead of how to write. Is that really what any of us want for our families, regardless of our free time and economic level? Unlikely.

Astronauts are smart and very familiar with this type of food preparation and every one will tell you it sucks, so if you don't believe me, ask an astronaut.

One more thing, Cook's Illustrated and to a lesser extent Cook's Country should have been included because the model they are using is way ahead of the game. They use science, real testing, human taste aggregation (the human "touch") and a lot of other methods that we're starting to see pop up more and more in this industry. Founder Christopher Kimball is basically building a content empire with these methods which could be applied to almost anything.

That's my tip: read Cook's Illustrated, watch America's Test Kitchen, and when Christopher Kimball talks, listen.

Nothing against Rachael Ray. Her cooking methods will be entirely relevant in the event of some sort of post-apocalyptic "The Road" type scenario.

These comments are hilarious. I'm frankly surprised so many people came to support Rachael Ray. Clearly these results were unfair since she promoted the poll on her website. Her magazine is of such a narrow interest -- Wired should have won because it's more culturally relevant and timely. Wired is pretty much on the pulse of the digital age and that's way more important than "home cooking".

  • bigs99 - 14 years ago

Rachel Ray promoted this contest on the homepage of her website. Really? REALLY? That means that she got 3 actual media people to vote for her and she got 10,000 fat, middle-American housewives to vote for her...on an ad industry poll!! Way to go Rachel...making our country fatter and our trade industry votes more murky than the poop stains in your Granny panties!

  • TRussell, yo. - 14 years ago

Okay, no one can deny Rachel Ray's popularity.

However, that's not what this is about. AdWeek's poll doesn't ask you to support the personality/publisher/popularity of the titles presented. Ideally, they're asking that you vote for the publication that has both an intrinsic appeal to you (the reader), *and* provides some sort of substantive value as a magazine in the last decade.

I think it's fair to say that Every Day, though popular, does not push any boundaries. It delivers exactly what you'd expect from a 'personal brand' magazine, and arguably does not challenge thought in the same way as some of the other publications listed.

Furthermore, it's only been published since 2005 -- which hardly makes it a contender for "Magazine of the Decade." We wouldn't award a gold medal to an Olympian who only ran half a race, so it's a stretch that Every Day should even be nominated.

  • jordan - 14 years ago

oprah does a lot of things well but her magazine isn't one of them.
it's fluffy and relatively information free.

  • Lacey - 14 years ago

I am doing the Everyday with Rachael Ray - HAPPY DANCE!!! Congrats to Rachael Ray and her fabulous staff for a fabulous Magazine!!

  • Lacey - 14 years ago

Oh yeah and Martha Stewart... YOU SUCK! Last laughs on you.

  • Lacey - 14 years ago

Sorry Serena start weeping!!! Congrats Rachael Ray! Well deserved and thanks for all the culinary inspiration! Loved you on QVC today and I love my Bubble and Browns!!

  • Serena - 14 years ago

Rachael Ray? Seriously? I mean, thanks for the food and you're really pretty, and Imma let you finish, but WIRED is the magazine of the decade. OF THE DECADE.

But no seriously, Wired's endlessly intriguing articles and amazing design should make this a no-brainer. If RR ends up winning I weep for humanity.

  • Charles - 14 years ago

Rolling Stone is to magazines what SNL is for television; Totally irrelevant and soooo yesterday. Rachael Ray is Everyday and here to stay, bitches!!! And please, those in support of RR, when you post a comment PUH-LEEZ spell her first name right as not to embarass us RR supporters!!! Thank You and I am through.

P.S. To "Realchefshateretardedray"....we know it's you, Martha. No need to hide behind the post as you have already made it known how you feel about Rach. You tired, worn-out, old leather shoe of a woman. And your daughter is a Big Time Meredith Baxter!!!!

  • Wired Fan - 14 years ago

Funny, Rachael Ray is the only candidate that posted this poll to their own website. that probably explains why she's winning.

  • Cheri - 14 years ago

This is for all you Rachael Ray haters out there. You guys are sooooooo jealous of her success that you can't think or see straight. She has NEVER EVER proclaimed to be a chef. She admits she is a cook. I love watching her shows because I get different ideas on what to make for dinner. I just can't believe how idiotic some of you people sound out there. Grow up already.

  • carolyn - 14 years ago

I AM NOT A NUTTY FAN OF RACHAEL RAY. My vote was for Rachael purely

due to the condecending and rude remarks by Martha Stewart last week.

Plus other remarks by people in the "profession". For example Mario Bertoli

said Rachael Ray was a "cook" not a "chef". RR never, ever, exclaimed

to be a chef, professional or amateaur. It is "Down Home Cooking".

Take that all you snotty chefs out there.

  • Kathy - 14 years ago

Hahahahahahahaha, Take that Martha Stewart you old liberal dimocrap hag. Rachel is beating you hands down. I love it.

  • Patricia Ann Cushen - 14 years ago

I'm not sure where you dug up the trash that has responded to the quiz you
gave but its outrages on how they speak about another human, they belong
in a third world where their mentality would be recognized for what it is. and to
allow that kind of script is very unfavorable to your quiz, I voted for R.R.and also would have voted for Oprah if you could vote for more then one as they
do a lot of good for people not just shoot off their fowl thoughts and bad
manners like the parties above, someone their not in the same class with.

  • Jenny - 14 years ago

Thanks NYer for your spirited yet lame response - sounds like you are just plain pissed that Rachael just plain ROCKS! So get over your hate and channel it into oh I don't know... an education?

  • NYer - 14 years ago

RR is nothing but a lying, fake pig! Her fans are just ass stoupid as she is! Keep buying her crap and cooking her fattening, gross food. She will be laughing all the way to the bank. "Small town girl who made it big", MY @SS! Everything that comes out of her fat mouth is a lie! The idiots that defend her are just that, idiots. You have your opinion of her, I have mine. I loathe her!

Oh No there seems to be a Bitter party of one-- Jennl!!! Go Rachael! Go Rachael!!!

  • Jenni - 14 years ago

Rachel Ray is a whore. And she cannot cook for shit. Anyone who likes her CLEARLY cannot cook and has no tastebuds whatsoever. Screw the RR Fans.

  • CJ - 14 years ago

Rachael Ray and her food = Brilliance!!

    F off Haters!!

  • scoobydoo - 14 years ago

Rachael Ray and her food = HEINOUS.

  • steven moore - 14 years ago

I vote for Sound and Vision magazine cause i want to know which TV has d best features. I used to get my news from U.S. News & World Report, before it went to monthly from weekly. It consistently gave a un- biased reporting on issues that affected the nation for 10's of years.

  • Nancy - 14 years ago

RR is kicking ASS!! Team Rach all the way!!!

  • OlaK - 14 years ago

Rachel Ray's food is terrible looking. Usually when people watch cooking shows, they get hungry...not with RR. Her food is the kind that you would throw straight into a trough to feed to pigs.
"Writing" a magazine with shitty recipes and no culinary education is not innovative or challenging. It just shows what kind of literary culture this is...the top rated magazine is full of stupid recipes, garbage articles and poor quality food.

  • Detroit - 14 years ago

This poll is a farce. If it were anywhere near legitimate (based on the genre dominating the results), both Oprah and Martha Stewart would be crushing Rach.

WIRED is an incredible magazine that has tracked, reported on, and envisioned the past decades technology advancements that have had immeasurable impact on mankind.

Either way, the poll is B.S. and I hope no corporations are influenced by it in anyway when deciding where their marketing dollars will be invested.

  • Flora Caples - 14 years ago

I'm on the Rachael Ray band too! She is fantastic! Rachael has got me out of many a dull dinner or lunch for my family, and she has showed me how to save money in the process. She is the BOMB D and then some!!!!!!!!!!

  • DX - 14 years ago

Fuck a Rachel Ray. In the last decade, WIRED has given more food for *thought* than all the rest of the publications listed here.

  • Siidney Santos - 14 years ago

Rackael Ray is the best! Not a chef but looks very good in the picture and in the TV also
    Congratulations

  • Matthew Kerwin - 14 years ago

My choice for magazine of the decade is N, The Magazine of Naturist Living. But then I'm biased cause I love to go to nude beaches, which is what the magazine is all about.

However, if I were to focus on a food magazine, it might be Cook's or the now defunct Gourmet.

However, any list that mixes genres is going to be plain stupid. Any poll asking us to rate anything is simply going to get our biases. It's like those stupid "best of" that every newspaper runs for its respective city. How am I supposed to say what, oh, is the best Thai restaurant in Ann Arbor when I have not been to all of them. So the same goes with the stupid magazine list: I haven't read them all, and never even heard of "Fast Company". Maybe the Rachel Ray magazine is the magazine of the century. I can't say. I've never read it. Somehow, though, I doubt its influence in society is greater than many of the magazines that are not even listed.

  • LW - 14 years ago

WTF?! Rachael Ray?! I agree with above commenter Kurt. WIRED is the cutting edge of print media. Every issue is oozing with interesting stories and beautiful design. I mean - have you read this month's cover story?! Journalistic brilliance. Remember, this vote is for MAGAZINE of the DECADE. Rachael Ray may be a good cook, but her magazine doesn't hold a candle to WIRED.

  • stoobydoo - 14 years ago

    Everyday with who?

  • Kurt - 14 years ago

WIRED RULES!!!! Oh, come on people, make the real winnter in this list stick out- like an outie belly button in the pages of the guiness book. Amen to WIRED and the great staff there.

  • Jo - 14 years ago

I think Rachel Ray is representative of every day women who are looking for down home cooking. Rachel is inspirational in her Italian Cuisine and quick meals. I am a healthy 59 year old woman who works out everyday and I DO NOT DIET and am able to keep my fats, cholesterol low with GOOD TASTIN food. Rachel, you cook REAL FOOD and I will work out every day the rest of my life so I can eat NATURAL food including butter, cheese, whole grain breads, etc. I hate DIET cookin and Rachel cooks with REAL FOOD and FEAL INGREDIENTS. GOOOOOOO RACHEL.

I also want to say, everyone has different likes and dislikes and it is plain RUDE and ROTTEN to call folks names on a website like this....

  • REALChefsHateRETARDEDRAY - 14 years ago

rachel ray is a joke. her food is repulsive and on-par with semi-schitzophrenic wholely alcoholic sandra lee. people who rely on "seasoning packets", boxed meals and cling to absurd vocabulary like, "stuffin' muffins" and "stoup" should do the rest of us a favour and dig a very very deep hole & lie in it. her tips and recipes are nothing short of abusive to anyone with a decent palate. oversalted, over-cooked, poorly prepared dishes are her pride and joy. what a way to mock the food industry. you losers with your nonstick pans and microwave cookery are pathetic. if you're an at-home cook who smokes 2packs a day and drinks heavily i'm sure her recipes are suited for your tastebuds. she's no chef, never will be and it's sad to see you sheep running to sing her praises. from a professional level the food industry is waiting for the earth to open up and swallow her whole. p.s. she is NOT hot, she's ass-ugly with smooshed pekinese features a fat ass, no tits and a voice that grates like jennifer tilly's (at least tilly has some tits to back it up)

  • Adrian Lamo - 14 years ago

Where is 2600 on this list?

  • Kalara - 14 years ago

Go Rachael Ray Go , you go girl. Tim Maly you never heard of Rachael Ray? foodnetwork 30minute meal , rachaelrayshow,

  • Tim Maly - 14 years ago

What does it say about me that I literally hadn't heard of Rachael Ray before clicking on this poll?

  • Sally - 14 years ago

BRAVO Virginia!! Everyday with Rachael Ray is in first place!! Rachael you ROCK!

  • Virginia Noggle - 14 years ago

Why is it that everyone wants to get their nose bent out-of-shape about someone who is trying to add great food to the tables of America; be it for the "elite and elaborate" in taste -or- the most challenged of fixed and lower-end incomes; as oppossed to teaching and spreading the news through publications such as "Rolling Stones" who condone and endorse the methods of growing and standard practices usage of those products and paraphinalia that enable continual alterations of the mind through the habitualizing distructive forces that condone the use of both chemical induced and naturally grown poisons?

  • Mollie - 14 years ago

I am on the Rachael Ray Team! YAY for Rach! And besides having a great magazine... she is SMOKING hot!

  • DJ - 14 years ago

    GO Rachael Ray!!

  • gman - 14 years ago

    this is one lame list

  • Jack - 14 years ago

Everyday with Rachel Ray? Wtf? No Rolling Stone, but Rachel Ray?

  • Marty - 14 years ago

No Rolling Stone? Who comes up with these choices? It's not just favoritism speaking, but to omit such an influential, major publication is folly.

Kind of like not including House for TV Show of the Decade.
