I can't really call Google a "website", because functions more as a search engine and collection of applications.
For a breakthrough site whose content arose out of *nothing* in 2000 to a reference of more than 3 million articles, it *has* to be Wikipedia. No other site has come close to displaying the influence and power of the Web.
Also, a big LOL @ MySpace. ...How the mighty have fallen!
For me, it is Google. I use Google services for almost everything, be it search, news, email, or anything. It definitely takes a large part of my online time.

u know it is. Quit denying it. It has about 50000 posts a day in ONE section. And Funny as hell
Actually bobdole, Google was founded in 1998 as a privately held company. It's IPO was in 2004. I don't think 2 years in the 90s makes it a website of the 90s. Most of the impact it's had on the world has been in the 2000s. 10 years goes by fast doesn't it?
Simple internet search reveals a lot.
Gmail - 2004
Google Earth -2005
Google video and acquired Youtube - 2006
Chrome - 2008
Chrome OS - 2009

Google was the website of *last* decade... Out of all these sites listed, only hulu and facebook are from this decade... This is like a poll asking what's the best TV show of this decade, then giving "Amos and Andy" and "Happy Days" etc as choices.
Google Search, Google Apps, Google News, Google Voice, YouTube, to name a few. Even if others don't vote for Google I bet they are a large part of most of our online lives. Lifehacker is my first choice for staying on top of our interesting computing experience. Thanks to them and everyone the contributes to the online community.

well, there's no surprise with the result!
Google should have win this...
While not most important, the Pirate Bay needs to be included on the list. It's influence cannot be denied.
Google, and youtube would be the best. 4chan is not for me.
