I have had severe, raw and inflamed reactions this year even to the clear crystal salt deodorant which I switched to seven years ago. I left off all soap too in an attempt to cure. Doctor thought it was a fungus but a punch biopsy showed it wasn't. Currently it has subsided following 5 days of prescription steroid. Oddly, one of my brothers half a continent away, had the same ailment at the same time, and he used different products. Some of the reactions I have had turned out to be following a change in laundry detergents. Some of the perfume and dye free ones are all right and some are not.

I used to after I shaved, especially in the summer, but I have started waxing about ever 2 weeks and have no problems

The wrong soap, deoderant, or material can set me on fire.

Tips to my Friends (male): There is no need to shave armpits, which reduces problems big time. Just clean it properly when taking shower. Deodorant even works better with grown hair (by increased surface area, since droplets of deodorant have more place to be on compare to hairless plain skin) Also, reduces chances of Fungal or Bacterial infection due to less incidents of bruises and cuts. Woman loves smell of male scent subconsciously (reducing mental tension) consciously they hate to see armpit hair but in reality they have more chance to stink more due to growing of new hair + it's sebaceous gland.
Tips to my female friends: well, i know you have to cut armpit, and once you cut it once you have to do it every time just likes upperlips and eyebrow. Unfortunately, i don't have any back up plan to advice you girls, since my theory is not to cut it, which is not the best in your interest. So, may be doctors will tell you what to do ? Sorry :D

P.S. why am i getting these crazy ideas ? well, i am Medical Student :P

I've never had any trouble with my arm pits. Never been allergic to any deodorant either.

I always get the bumps but not any redness. Shaving my armpits is a pain I have to shave almost everyday.

for years i always used the same brand of deoderant. Then all of a suddden my arm pits itched all the time, it was terrible. I changed deoderant bands and now seems to be fine. It's almost like I became allergic to the old one. Odd!!

I always seem to get a razor burn on the outside of my arm pit near my back when I shave. How can I prevent that?

I quit using underarm deodorant with perfume beacuse it irrates my armpits. I,m 45 and my mother had the same problem whe she was about 50,otherwise I would not have known it was underarm deodorant that caused the problem. I have no problems with it now unless I use deodorant with purfume. Avon sells one without perfume. I love it.
