I have read some of these above comments, and I noticed one thing in common among those who wrote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka that their writings were aggressive and very offensive. Also, I think some of them have problems standing with others' opinions, so they try to insult people who have different opinions because they may be snobbish. Unfortunately, UNP, JVP and Mr.Sarath Fonseka apparently have the same problem. As an example JVP barred all government media from covering their meetings. Do they talk about media freedom?
Anyway, I don't live in Sri Lanka any more, or I'm not a Sri Lankan citizen anymore. In fact, I love Sri Lanka that's why I make comments in here. Even though, I live abroad I'm fully aware of Sri Lankan situation. I've known who is Sarath Fonseka as I grew up in the same town and I went to the same school as he was. Also, I've known Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa as a good politician since I was a school boy. I think before somebody say something, they should know what they are talking about very well. Therefore, I have better knowledge about both persons to make comments in here.
Lost of people talk about corruption in here, but which politician is not corrupted? In fact, I think one thing is clear most of the politician are not corrupted before they come to power, but they get corrupted after they come to power. It applies to every politician including clergy in the parliament. In addition, if somebody study about current world politics, they will able to get to know corruption is all over the world for different degrees. No body can say Mr. Sarath Fonseka is not going to be a corrupted politician for sure, but I can say something about his credibility for sure that he is a very volatile character. It's very hard to trust what he says. We can analyze that going through his last 15 months media interviews. The most important thing he doesn't have any political background. Also, military administration and civil administration are two different things. Nonetheless, Mr. Sarath Fonseka can be a politician like anybody can be a politician, but he needs to get some experience at least as a MP before he contests a Presidential Election. Otherwise he will be like previous Pakistani President.
Next, Rajapaksa family's involvement in politics is not a surprise when you turn back and see what former SL presidents' families or relatives had. Unfortunately, Mr. Rajapaksa has too many relatives involved in active politics.

We live in overseas. We saw the whole picture clearly. We saw how much pressure came to Mahinda during the war. He did not bend his back. I think the best solution for Sri Lanka right now is for Mahinda to join hands with Sarath F or vice versa as both are Patriots (Desha Premi) in different ways. Now since SF has entered poltics, let him be MR's prime minister or some one higher up in defence, with real powers.

President M Rajapakse has brought Gen. S Fonseka & appointed as the Army commander.After winning the war he has been promoted & give him a respectable post.He thinks that it not enough for him. He needs something other than that. If he says he was the only person who won the war , then the other leaders of the two armed forces & the police officers were sleeping during the war. Don't forget every Sri Lankan people has dedicated something to get this VICTORY.

The other politicians who around him use that chance to do their own bad things for country. But we silent. Where is the end of this. We have to shut our mouths ever any time. Let me clear this up...before also we had a great leaders in our three forces..so why we couldn't finish the war?...because the precedents of those times didn't have back bone to get a straight decision...Hon Mahinda Rajapaka got the decision and he made it happned...If somebody cannot understand the truth that person may not have a brain for sure.
Regarding the elections i have no doubt that Mahinda will win...But let me say something about Gen.Sarath Fonseka..In my opinion he is the biggest traitor of the country , and UNP leaders and foolish gay Mangala Samaraweera told one time that This Army Commander even not good for Salvation Army...now these shemeless jerks are got hands with this traitor Sarath...Any way on 26th of Januray he'll be finished and he should use his green card to scape from srilankan good peoples curse....

Why people should not vote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka? Firstly, he doesn't have any political background. Secondly, he can not make a united Sri Lanka. Thirdly, Mr. Fonseka does not have international support.
Mr. Sarath Fonseka gave the military leadership to defeat LTTE like Mr. Arjuna Ranathunga gave leadership to win the Cricket World Cup in 2006... See More. As a matter of fact, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa has been governing the country to eradicate terrorism while developing the country. What I'm trying to say all these three people have accomplished some great things, but both military and cricket are quite different from politics. It's like an engineer knows how to make a bridge, but a doctor does not; a doctor knows how to do a surgery, but an engineer doesn't; even though, both of them are professionals. I do not understand how Mr. Sarath Fonseka can claim the victory by himself or by SLA because SLAF and SL Navy have done a tremendous role to finish the war against LTTE, too. Futhermore, the president is the commander of all three forces and the police including STF. In fact, governing a country is not like controlling a military because military is run by orders, and every military personal has to obey to orders from high ranks; otherwise, they are punished. That way, it's easier to control a military than a country because there are no strikes, pickets, no boycott rally s, no voting system, so what ever the commander orders lower ranks carry out. They do not have to worry about money as government supplies money for their all expenses. There were good leaders in SLA like Major General Kobbekaduwa, Brigadier Vijaya Wimalaratha and many more, but they never had that political motivation and leadership to finish the war; otherwise, LTTE leader Prabakaran would have gone long time ago. Also, according to Mr. Sarath Fonseka's resignation anybody can understand he had problems with obeying to president and secretary to the Ministry of Defense decisions, and he might wanted something different than their decisions or might wanted to over rule their decisions. Anyway, what it reveals to us is he was not loyal to the government, and it was a matter of General's discipline. What's more, there is a question about his credibility, too because he changes his mind at a glance. Therefore, Mr. Sarath Fonseka is just another man who had come to top of his career under a better governance.
A Sri Lankan president must be a person who can tolerate all ethnicity s and who can communicate with all Sri Lankans' problems equally and who has a clear vision to improve all the cultures in Sri Lanka. Instead of begging everybody's help to defeat Mr. Rajapaksa at the election, Mr.Sarath Fonseka must have a political agenda about country and the people. So far I did not hear anything like that from Mr. Fonseka, but criticism over President and over Defense Secretary. Definitely, he will give some election promises, but I don't think he will have better policy about minorities in SL. In deed, people don't have enough time to understand him as a politician before the election. Finally, he can hardly address everybody's problems because lack of minorities' support.
No country likes dictatorship in any other country because then it is very hard for them to deal with it diplomatically. We all know Sri Lanka is a developing country, so with out enough foreign help the country's economy will be collapsed.
In conclusion, I would like to say if Sri Lankans love their country, they should think twice before they vote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka because he does not have, any political experience, any minority support and any international support to govern the country towards development.

Major Gen. Kobbekaduwa could have finished this war if he got political support that Sarath Fonseka got. Fonseka could not win this war if he did not get Navy and Air Force support. Most of all those who fought the actual war in the fields, ground, Sea or air are the real heroes. But not those who gave gave orders from Air Conditioned BUNKERS in cossy Colombo.
Any mention of over 6000 odd young/old/men/women killed to bring freedom to SL. You are only worried about what happens next.
My advice to T'raja is to support Mahinda, if you still live in SL or planing a holiday in SL next year from where ever you are. If you are an ex-patriate, why not save all that air fare, mind your own business, not add regretory comments on Web Pages against SL & keep eating Ham, Bacon while you can.

I have read some of these above comments, and I noticed one thing in common among those who wrote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka that their writings were aggressive and very offensive. Also, I think some of them have problems standing with others' opinions, so they try to insult people who have different opinions because they may be snobbish. Unfortunately, UNP, JVP and Mr.Sarath Fonseka apparently have the same problem. As an example JVP barred all government media from covering their meetings. Do they talk about media freedom?
Anyway, I don't live in Sri Lanka any more, or I'm not a Sri Lankan citizen anymore. In fact, I love Sri Lanka that's why I make comments in here. Even though, I live abroad I'm fully aware of Sri Lankan situation. I've known who is Sarath Fonseka as I grew up in the same town and I went to the same school as he was. Also, I've known Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa as a good politician since I was a school boy. I think before somebody say something, they should know what they are talking about very well. Therefore, I have better knowledge about both persons to make comments in here.
Lost of people talk about corruption in here, but which politician is not corrupted? In fact, I think one thing is clear most of the politician are not corrupted before they come to power, but they get corrupted after they come to power. It applies to every politician including clergy in the parliament. In addition, if somebody study about current world politics, they will able to get to know corruption is all over the world for different degrees. No body can say Mr. Sarath Fonseka is not going to be a corrupted politician for sure, but I can say something about his credibility for sure that he is a very volatile character. It's very hard to trust what he says. We can analyze that going through his last 15 months media interviews. The most important thing he doesn't have any political background. Also, military administration and civil administration are two different things. Nonetheless, Mr. Sarath Fonseka can be a politician like anybody can be a politician, but he needs to get some experience at least as a MP before he contests a Presidential Election. Otherwise he will be like previous Pakistani President.
Next, Rajapaksa family's involvement in politics is not a surprise when you turn back and see what former SL presidents' families or relatives had. Unfortunately, Mr. Rajapaksa has too many relatives involved in active politics.

Regarding any position, if a person occupy that position for a long period, he builds an empiricism and becomes corrupted....Mahinda Rajapaksha knows the taste of President powers and if we gave him another 6 years to him...JST THINK what will happen. And on the other hand our living cost is growing up and up due to their corruption and pollution...So we should take our chance to vote for a pure and decent person who will give us a good change....YES I vote for Mr.Sarath Fonseka....I believe all wise people will agree with me...No need to talk with foolish people who do not know the character and corruption of Mahinda Rajapaksha and his family....

I agree with Yasas Kulasooriya comment. we need a leader with sound political background. We all can see that MR has done some development work other than the victory against the LTTE. Another thing I realized is that 'SF mania' is only in colombo and suburbs. Rural people still like MR. SF will be another 'Hela Urumaya'. Came out with flying colors and ended up with nothing.
Why people should not vote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka? Firstly, he doesn't have any political background. Secondly, he can not make a united Sri Lanka. Thirdly, Mr. Fonseka does not have international support.
Mr. Sarath Fonseka gave the military leadership to defeat LTTE like Mr. Arjuna Ranathunga gave leadership to win the Cricket World Cup in 2006... See More. As a matter of fact, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa has been governing the country to eradicate terrorism while developing the country. What I'm trying to say all these three people have accomplished some great things, but both military and cricket are quite different from politics. It's like an engineer knows how to make a bridge, but a doctor does not; a doctor knows how to do a surgery, but an engineer doesn't; even though, both of them are professionals. I do not understand how Mr. Sarath Fonseka can claim the victory by himself or by SLA because SLAF and SL Navy have done a tremendous role to finish the war against LTTE, too. Futhermore, the president is the commander of all three forces and the police including STF. In fact, governing a country is not like controlling a military because military is run by orders, and every military personal has to obey to orders from high ranks; otherwise, they are punished. That way, it's easier to control a military than a country because there are no strikes, pickets, no boycott rally s, no voting system, so what ever the commander orders lower ranks carry out. They do not have to worry about money as government supplies money for their all expenses. There were good leaders in SLA like Major General Kobbekaduwa, Brigadier Vijaya Wimalaratha and many more, but they never had that political motivation and leadership to finish the war; otherwise, LTTE leader Prabakaran would have gone long time ago. Also, according to Mr. Sarath Fonseka's resignation anybody can understand he had problems with obeying to president and secretary to the Ministry of Defense decisions, and he might wanted something different than their decisions or might wanted to over rule their decisions. Anyway, what it reveals to us is he was not loyal to the government, and it was a matter of General's discipline. What's more, there is a question about his credibility, too because he changes his mind at a glance. Therefore, Mr. Sarath Fonseka is just another man who had come to top of his career under a better governance.
A Sri Lankan president must be a person who can tolerate all ethnicity s and who can communicate with all Sri Lankans' problems equally and who has a clear vision to improve all the cultures in Sri Lanka. Instead of begging everybody's help to defeat Mr. Rajapaksa at the election, Mr.Sarath Fonseka must have a political agenda about country and the people. So far I did not hear anything like that from Mr. Fonseka, but criticism over President and over Defense Secretary. Definitely, he will give some election promises, but I don't think he will have better policy about minorities in SL. In deed, people don't have enough time to understand him as a politician before the election. Finally, he can hardly address everybody's problems because lack of minorities' support.
No country likes dictatorship in any other country because then it is very hard for them to deal with it diplomatically. We all know Sri Lanka is a developing country, so with out enough foreign help the country's economy will be collapsed.
In conclusion, I would like to say if Sri Lankans love their country, they should think twice before they vote for Mr. Sarath Fonseka because he does not have, any political experience, any minority support and any international support to govern the country towards development.

Every government has corruptions. Mahinda's government is not different. But do you really want to go back and give this country to UNP? Can Fonseka run the country by himself? Can UNP and JVP run a government together? I really believe a lots of money will come from overseas to fight against Mahinda. Definitely not from Sinhalese. We still love our native land. There is no doubt country will be very unstable if Mahinda will not win the election. SL people do not think about country's future. We always think about our stomach. Major Gen. Kobbekaduwa could have finished this war if he got political support that Sarath Fonseka got. Fonseka could not win this war if he did not get Navy and Air Force support. So Gotabhaya was the one who handled all these 3 forces. There is no doubt, Mahinda and Gotabhaya love SL so much. Unlike Sarath Mahinda never said racist things. He respects Minorities. Mahinda just won the war. He needs time to finish other things. I respected Sarath before but not anymore. He does not care about SL. He cares about him.

If Mahinda supporeted LTTE, why should he ordered the armed forces to annihilate them & show a fellow Sri Lankan's (one of my brother's) dead body all over the world. Fonseca (a fellow Anandinan like me) only carried out the duties assigned to him, as a loyal army officer. We all admire him, Navy & Airforce Commanders. Most of all those who fought the actual war in the fields, ground, Sea or air are the real heroes. But not those who gave gave orders from Air Conditioned BUNKERS in cossy Colombo.
Any mention of over 6000 odd young/old/men/women killed to bring freedom to SL. You are only worried about what happens next.
My advice to T'raja is to support Mahinda, if you still live in SL or planing a holiday in SL next year from where ever you are. If you are an ex-patriate, why not save all that air fare, mind your own business, not add regretory comments on Web Pages against SL & keep eating Ham, Bacon while you can.

Other Presidents who/she became as a Presidents before him should have done this easily rather than be selfish. Please vote him again to become next president.
