I prefer the vent mount as it is quite close to you, easier to adjust and also easy for the passenger to adjust so that they can see it also if you want that. Also you hear it better and easy to take off and put out away with the GPS leaving no evidence that you have one for would be thieves. It seems to be firm, I was worried they might fall but as not in over a year of use. Mine has not been bothered by the air conditioner .
