Sherando can't handle AAA schools point blank, if they play battlefield, stonewall, and schools like that they will be highly embarrassed. They can barely beat the schools in AA so what makes them think they have any chance at AAA schools? Keep it AA and rezone that's the best thing to do, it's not that serious, people get relocated everyday, be glad they are being relocated to a different school instead of being permanently relocated like the people in Haiti. This issue isn't as serious as the parents are trying to make it, there is way more serious issues in the world than to be upset about your child changing schools. SUCK IT UP! It's no different then when JWMS kids have to split and some go to JWHS and some go to MHS!! Stop crying!

The reality and bottom line is, the school is over populated today! The rezoning is and was going to happen anyways, it just so happen it came to light when the school was faced with the AAA notice and caught with thier pants down. The school board should be embarrased the over population issue was not dealt with more promptly. Now they are being hammered by the nay sayers who are reading into the media! My prediction: the school is rezoned, Sherando stays AA and the students get to pick thier graduating class. Keep in mind, this is not the 1st time this has ever happened, although it may very well be the 1st time for the media playing these cards. Also, the State still has the option of upholding the AAaA decision regardless of the school boards actions!

Many many years ago when I was in school this happened to me and a large group of students. I can't tell how worng this is!!!! We were never accepted by the students of our new school, and we had been torn away from students we had been friends with since grade school. Many of the group just gave up and dropped out,and the rest of just suffered through. Not at all a good expierence. The is too big a price to pay for athletics.

Consider this, IF VHSL allows this temporary band-aid fix, then they are going to open up a can-of-worms across the STATE.
I believe its 50/50 and would not surprise me that VHSL turns it down. They have to consider ALL schools, just not 1 individual school who does not want to travel and compete in Group AAA.
Don't give us the stuff about kids missing out on studying and such, it's time to move on up and compete with the big boys. Sherando is to large, time to move on up and compete on a different level than AA.
Sorry, but the numbers are what they are, they do not lie.

It really is the parents who make such a big deal out of a move..the kids will be fine. Life is about changes, get used to it. Traveling over an hour to go to a game is too expensive and provides too many opportunities for accidents, the kids will get home very late from games, supporters won't travel that far to watch, and the teams they would play would be far more competative then Sherando could hope to be. Personally I would like to see Sherado's butt kicked in sports...(obviously my kids go to a different school), but not at the risk of the travel nor the expense of my tax dollars. Parents lighten up..change teaches the students to be stronger and diverse, it's not the end of the world.
All the comments thus far failed to mention the fact that maybe Sherando is afraid of a little competition. Everyone knows a school wants a winning record when it comes to sports so if Sherando moves to AAA, maybe their athletes will get a bit more of a challenge than what they are used to. Just a thought.

OK...FIRST of all, these are 60 kids that went to James Wood middle school, then had to shift to Sherando where they had few, if any friends....
Second of all, Juniors/seniors would be allowed to stay at Sherando...
THIRD...can't afford the extra cost of travelling farther for sports...
FOURTH...Sherando is OVER capacity, James Wood is under...
PLEASE, PLEASE, think before you make emotional pleas...like "if it were my son" etc...
Do what is logical...

Well we went thru this a little while ago with wanting to move students around. The only thing that it did than was start a war between the folks off cedar creek grade and the school boards. Well it is my opion that the school systems has better things to do or they should be doing. Why dont the school system leave things alone Sherando is to be AAA then it should be When did we start thinking about all the BS with sports in the school system. Sherando should be a AAA so be it There is money in the budget for the extra trips that the students will have to go. Take the money from other Department Budgets Some of them Dept budget is more than I make in Year time

I know if my kid was one of those 60, I would be pretty darn upset about it. I don't care if Sherando goes AAA or stays AA because they will still play all the local schools anyway. However, I think sacrifcing 60 innocent kids to play political games is wrong. I don't envy the people making these decisions. What I cant understand is why these local districts only have 5 teams in them. When I was in high school here, we had 10 teams in the commonwealth district and 10 teams in the Northwestern district. 1 team went on to represent the district at the regional level and so on.... Now the entire district except for one team makes the playoffs in several sports. It is so complicated that we have two state champions for each class now (A,AA,AAA).... So we end up with like 6 state champions instead of three.... Dont get me started.....

If VSHL wants Sherando wants them to go to AAA then they should pony up the extra money that would be needed for the extra travel distance.
