Firefox Id say. Eventhough I loke opera too. IE has probably the best compatibility allround.

  • fishing - 14 years ago

although m a fan of MS but i will prefer chrome since its DOM is very resembling to IE and and in accordance to W3C but Firefox is just a mess for making trouble specially to the developers and designers..

Always enjoy seeing folks get excited about a piece of software - it's not a belief choice (lots of those going 'round at the moment), nor a lifestyle thing either.

Search for 'browser acid test' and point your choice of browser at that URL (acid3 dot acidtests dot org) to see how it does. Opera scores highest. FF not too bad and well, I'll leave the rest... Opera is the browser of choice for hackers, if that tells you anything, it's got to be that it's the most secure - at the moment anyway.

Above all, have fun. (And use a spell checker!)

  • Stauart Bliss - 15 years ago

Why the hell is the EU/Opera telling me what browser install . I can perfectly well install my own choise of browser. I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE INSTALLING ANY OTHER BROWSERS ESPECIALY THOSE OF THE F****** IDIOT'S THAT STARTED THIS FARCE. This definatly had the oppersite effect that they & the EU wanted. As I am the sys op for my PC'S that IS MY DECiSION. I definatly don't want to try the others.

  • Ron White - 15 years ago

Congratulations, Pierrehk. You're the winner of the most ignorant, racist, and xenophobic comment I've ever seen on the Web.

It seems that you'ver never used Maxthon or you would know that its appearance can be changed to whatever your standard for non-ugly is, and that it has fewer bugs and is more stable than most other browsers. It was first to have fix for the Aurora hack, and it has Isolator technology that prevents a freeze in one tab bring down the whole program. It has the least number of bugs reported to the U.S. agency responsible for trackcing bugs of all browsers.

  • pierrehk - 15 years ago

Don't make me laugh. Maxthon is not only extremely ugly (chinese) but it is so full of bugs (chinese) that it is like a permanent and chronic pre-alpha release (chinese). Pure ugly crapware (chinese).

  • apexwm - 15 years ago

Internet Explorer is riddled with security holes. I choose Firefox hands down. It's far less bloated, it has tons of addons, for FREE. Plus it handles passwords better and is just a great all around browser.

  • everts garay - 15 years ago

Microsoft please buy Opera browser. In that way you will be number one again.
Becouse IE Sucksssss. Opera it's best Browser, Best Innovation.

  • Ron White - 15 years ago

    Oh, and for PC World.....

Right now "Other" has nearly twice as many votes as Safari. You're making the same assumption most publications make--that none of the browsers matter, other than the five you include by name. Judging from the comments, here, I wouldn't be surprised if an inclusive poll showed that the fifth most popular browser is Maxthon, not Safari.

Come on, give it a try.

  • Ron White - 15 years ago

    Hello, Hello...

No. Maxthon is not just internet Explorer with a new skin/UI? IE and Max use the same rendering engine to display pages--Trident. Trident accounts for only about a third of the code in Maxthon. The rest is devoted to new features and technology that makes Maxthon faster, more secure, easier to use, more crashproof, more productive, and just plain more fun to use.
Google and Safari also use a common rendering engine, Webkit. But you don't hear anyone saying Google is a skin for Safari or Safari is a skin for Google. You, Hello, were taken in by the false badmouthing put out by, I suspect, Firefox fans. It may be ignorance on their part rather than malice, but it's false, nonetheless.
Give Maxthon a try your self, and see how great a browser can be.
    Ron White

  • hello - 15 years ago

@someone, isn't Maxthon just Internet Explorer with a new skin/UI?

  • odyssee - 15 years ago

    maxthon for me

  • someone - 15 years ago

    @loveyouall:
have you checked the features of maxthon
    http://www.maxthon.com/overview.htm
    ?
it has so many built in features and it has the best UI customization power that i know of (and i know of a lot of programs)-you can remove/move/modify/add any button you want and in any way you want.
you can also check out a forum thread with videos made by a maxthon fan, to show some of the features he likes:
    http://forum.maxthon.com/viewthread.php?tid=77916

  • loveyouall - 15 years ago

Never heard of Maxthon until just now. I've been using Opera for many years. From what I'm reading about Maxthon, it doesn't have anything Opera doesn't have. So, why Maxthon? I'm curious to know what you think. Thanks.

  • dev - 15 years ago

    Maxthon

  • Gary M - 15 years ago

I use several browsers but IE is my least used, and yes I think microsoft should do like linux and have several browsers installed, now that would be choice you people do need to quit bickering on here because that is what this is about grow up is the phrase i use both America and Europeans

  • David - 15 years ago

Im sure the eu would make google do the same. But I dont see microsoft makeing a browser for another os anytime soon. Only if google took alot 40-50% on windows market share. Mabey firefox would dev something for it but i highly doubt that.

Only other company like microsoft is apple and yeah they would try anything to kill another browser on apple.

The ruleing has been comming down for a long time ever since the old netscape days of 1995 or so where microsoft did alot of stuff to stop netscape

  • Joe Jeo - 15 years ago

@tt, Microsoft gained a monopoly in the browser market by bundling it with Windows.

Other monopolies did not abuse theirs, while MS did.

  • Alex - 15 years ago

Far too long in the coming, MS should have been fined 50% of past and future profits, to send a message to the world. It's still a bit of a climbdown by the EU.

Been using opera since V7.5, now far more stable than then.

  • Paul - 15 years ago

    I don't believe it !!!!
Opera is second !!! Excellent !!!

  • tt - 15 years ago

before first: if they are so good and gaining market share in browsers, OS, search this and that, why talk of monopoly?

First, i love MS. Other weepers should build something like Windows first, then they can moan about competition. Nobody has an OS like Windows
Ask Redhat about desktop OS. They tried, then threw the towel

2nd, Re work, the hardest workers are Germans, Chinese, Japs - that's a fact.
some americans are hard workers and creative, that's why we got Windows and IE and they guy is giving money away for African kids. Didn't hear about that from Google, Oracle or whatever

3rd why not nail other monopolies? there are so many forcefeeding us with cxxp, flash, reader, oracble DB, mobilephone makers, carmakers, foodmaker, medicine etc..
    i see double standards

4th MS is cool coz they are good marketers and creative and listen to what we need. Let market forces decide. isn't that the core of free market thinking?

    Forza MS.

FYI: They also forced MS to remove mediaplayer and the result? other players dont work coz they need MP codecs!!?? ha ha talking about shot in the foot

  • maxthon fan - 15 years ago

    maxthon all the way!!!
currently using maxthon2. sure hope to see maxthon3 final ...

  • E. J. van Waasdijk - 15 years ago

The European Commission made a big mistake! It does not matter what browser people choose. What really matters, is wat operating system peole choose. It should have demanded that computers/laptops should be sold separate from the operating system. Here in Holland it is almost impossible to buy a laptop without Windows. This couping of products ought to be forbidden. And shops ought to be free to sell whatever operating systems they like and/or are chosen by their clients. This only gives freedom to the end users.

  • Achal - 15 years ago

Those idiots don't represent Americans. Idiots like them make America look bad. This has nothing do with Europeans being lazy. It has to do with MS and IE and EU. So shut up with all the racism.

  • NANCY - 15 years ago

Just what the world needs, more American loudmouths, don`t you people have any manners at all? The rest of the world are sick and tired listening to your bragging,we`re the biggest,we`re the best,we`re the richest, we`re the this we`re the that!!!! one thing that is very self evident is that you are most certainly the most despicable, sickening xenophobes on the planet. However i digress,in answer to the question,MS were more or less forced by a DEMOCRATIC EUROPE to stop the monopoly so let`s wait and see what lays ahead .

  • Nick - 15 years ago

Well if ignorance is bliss you Yanks must be in Eden, why the snidey comments about Europeans? No wonder the rest of the world barfs when you people open your big, ignorant mouths.YES we Europeans are PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF MAKING CHOICES,when AMERICAN MONOPOLIES are forced to allow us a choice and as your UNEMPLOYMENT figures are among the worst in the developed world the smug reference to European workers is laughable.

  • Mark - 15 years ago

Well anyone that asks me what to pick, the answer is pretty clear, Opera. They are working on 10.50 at the moment, and it's the perfect browser (to be honest thou, Opera 10.10 was already pretty perfect). The latest Opera kills Chrome in benchmarks, it's more secure and web standards compliant than Firefox and Safari, and it's looks darn amazing.. it also works in harmony with your phone, whatever make or model it may be, there is a Opera for it.

Firefox and Chrome may have the marketing edge and minds, but if you want quality and technology as the decider, then it's Opera all the way. All the recent features than the other browsers shout about have been standard Opera innovations for many years. (Tabs, Gestures, Awesome Bars, Speed Dials to name a few)

If you want to check out the Opera 10.50 beta, it's on the Opera website, or better still help with the beta testing and pickup the latest snapshot at the Opera Desktop Team Blog.

  • jotun - 15 years ago

    @Khaled Khalil

I went and tried that. First result is this article. Then firefox, opera, safari, and chrome (in that order)

  • Khaled Khalil - 15 years ago

    @maurice
well, if they "Google" "web browsers", guess which will be the first result ? ;)
ah ah, don't remind me, it is just a sponsored link :D

monopoly is everywhere, keep minds up.

  • klkk - 15 years ago

Hey, smug Americans! IE usage is higher in the states, so I guess that makes you more lazy/dumb.

NB: this is about monopoly. Microsoft has to do it, because Windows has over 95% of the market and strong network effects. Minority OS vendors have more freedom, because they have less power.

  • WellThatsOK - 15 years ago

Wow, quite a bit of bigotry and xenophobia/racism here... I'll ignore those people.

@Dale Griffin: It wasn't the courts, it was the Competition Commissioner. Microsoft did break the law, whether you agree with the law or not. Should burglars be set free because they don't like laws against breaking into other people's houses?

@John: Does Chrome OS have a monopoly like Windows does? No? Then the comparison is quite useless. Microsoft violated European competition law, while Google didn't.

  • Aaron - 15 years ago

Obviously, they wouldn't make Google do the same. It's completely different as Chrome OS is the browser. Chrome OS wouldn't function without Google Chrome, it is the main part of it. As for Windows, the web browser is just one application that runs through the OS.
Also, another thing that is different is that Chrome OS is open source and free, so as they are not selling anything, I don't believe they could make them implement something like that, or else they could force Ubuntu to have that at the start.

  • John - 15 years ago

Microsoft has been keeping IE close, but the thing is what are the European courts gonna do to Google when Chrome OS comes out? Chrome OS uses the Google Chrome browser as the interface and it'd be stupid for them to have to add in support for other browsers on a browser based OS. Chrome OS is great as is and shouldn't be tampered with stupid laws like these.

  • Dale Griffin - 15 years ago

You forget that it wasn't the actual users that wanted this, it was the courts. And who is it that makes all that money at court? Lawyers of course. Why else have so many laws? It's to make it impossible for people without a law degree to do anything without them getting a cut.

  • John Keitz - 15 years ago

You realize that these are Europeans we're talking about here. They're not exactly self starters. They can't be expected to actually search for a browser! That's almost like work, dude!

  • maurice - 15 years ago

Are Europeans so dense that they cannot Google "web browsers" and download the one of choice. How do they think we access different browsers? Magic?
