The Asheville Regional Airport was selected by Google for the free holiday Wi-Fi promotion starting in Nov/Dec 2009. During that time, airport patrons utilized the free wi-fi (which has been free since 2002) to conduct business, stream audio/video and explore the net, THANKS GOOGLE for choosing AVL. We look forward to helping the Asheville Community's bid for fiber!

Google Relocating In The South. Greenville!!!!!
Right on Sean! I"ve lived in Greer for all 31 years of my life, and yes, Greenville is much as my home as Greer. Not to mention that Greer's businesses are promoting here as well. Many of us that live here in Greer (and other cities), work and play in Greenville.
Right on WIll! In addition to the 438,119 people in Greenville, there are 24,557 here and Greer, and yup, its true...I know most of them and they're all voting.

Google Fiber belongs in Baton Rouge! Baton Rouge is a capital/college town that is growing into so much more. The presence of Louisiana State University means the area is filled with young, charismatic, intelligent, progressive people! But the biggest reason to bring fiber to BR is, WE NEED GOOGLE FIBER! Choosing BR will continue the technological revolution taking place in the southeast!

GREENVILLE WANTS GOOGLE!! Our amazing community has a small town feel with larger city amenities. One of the best kept secret in the south, Google NEEDS to be in Greenville!
Asheville would be the perfect place for Google to make their Fiber Optics base. Why? Well tons of reasons! As many have stated, we are full of diverse characters. We are in the perfect area when it comes to weather. Google would not need to worry about a natural disaster occurring here as much as they would in other cities. Our economy is not thriving as it should be for such a busy city, and Google would help with bringing more work into our town to help low-income families and business owners. We also have a pretty spiffy Weather Data center that collects data for cities all over the world!

I work for an International company headquartered here in Greenville and the CEO sent out this link to all employees, I have seen it on numerous Facebook postings and statuses, and I have seen several email chains going around everyday. I live in G'ville and the link to this site has gone viral here. I just received this link (again) from my son's Geometry teacher. The principal of the school sent it too all teachers. Greenville has more volunteers per capita than any other non-college city of its size in America. We know how to give back, and I've been to Google twice----they definitely know how to give back too. That place is amazing. And so is Greenville.
For those who say that Greenville is cheating. One you are insulting Google, I think they would make this poll so that cheating couldn't happen. If you accuse Greenville of cheating then well you accuse Google of not being able to code a poll. Secondly what some of you aren't realizing is that Greenville is like the only city on the list from SC besides Hilton Head. That in of itself is a big deal. For those that don't know your geography Greenville is almost the center of the upstate, In addition to Spartanburg and Anderson. So if Google Fiber comes to Greenville that backbone service provider will bring faster and more reliable service to all counties, cities, and towns in the upstate. Fiber wire is a backbone cable and if it runs through Greenville then the high quality services will propagate down to the surrounding counties and cities in some fashion. Greenville is making this fact known and so it's not just the city of Greenville voting but the cities and counties of people surrounding Greenville that is voting as well. Thirdly there are a ton of disgruntled college students that have a crappy network and connection who are voting for Greenville as well to have a better network. Lastly it is a pride issue, not many people in the world know about Greenville, SC. We were put on the map by BMW and if Google Fiber comes to Greenville that will put the city even more on the map, bringing tourists to not only Greenville but the rest of the upstate boosting the economy. Greenville isn't cheating we are just doing our best to advertise and market this competition to the people of the upstate. :-)

Greenville's a great place live, work and raise a family. It's a place and a people Google would be proud to be associated with.
Greenville, SC is truly unique. The quintessential small Southern city, it is gracious, mannerly and wlecoming --- with a healthy dose of big city energy and business acumen. It is among the most sophisticated cities in America, able to attract the attention and hold the on-going loyalty of many of the world's best known and respected international companies.
Google's decision to come to Greenville would place it in the panoply of super-star international companies (BMW, Michelin, Fuji, Milliken,etc.) that already know the wonders of the South Carolina Upstate. While other communities might benefit from Google being there, no one else can actually showcase Google as well.

Belgian born, I've lived and worked in 10 countries and 4 US states so far. And I can only say one thing: Greenville SC absolutely rocks when it comes to entrepreneurial spirit, business drive, innovation focus and high-tech crave. The quality of life is just absolutely great. The people are amazing. I know folks from all over the States and all over the world who have moved to Greenville in the past few years, and each and every one of them loves it here. Greenville would be the perfect place for Google to launch it's Fiber!
GOOOOOOOOGLE we need you! Greenville, South Carolina needs you Google. We need jobs that you are providing by coming here. Plus Greenville is full of haard working individuals who where laid off from work because the company the worked for could no longer pay them. I personaly know five people who quit off from there job because they wanted to quit so the company they worked for wouldn't go under, causing everyone in the company to lose their job. These are the people that make up Greenville. That is why we need you GOOGLE.
Looking at the rate of polling it is clear that something suspicious is occurring for Greenville voting. The voting is somehow flawed, as is the American Idol voting. Either the voting method must be change or Greenville disqualified.
Greenville, SC is an up and coming technical hub. North Carolina has the research triangle which is now world reknown as a place where technology is showcased and the industry and individuals are technically savvy. Greenville is working in that direction for South Carolina. Situated along the main corridor between Atlanta and Charlotte, it will bring visibility to the efforts of Google. ICARR is getting increased visibility as a fuel cell research facility, spearheaded by Clemson University and with support of BMW and Michelin, as well as the government and many other partners. Michelin and BMW have brought large numbers of jobs and industry to the area and many of the employees are transplants from other areas of the country, if not the world. All together, it would be hard for any other area to be at the right point to benefit from Google's efforts and then to proliferate those efforts globally.
As one of the fastest growing cities in the US, Greenville SC is a prime candidate to partner with Google. If the goal is to be on the cutting edge before it happens, Greenville is a winner and it could be Google Fiber that gives us the boost needed to get there!

Asheville would be a great spot for Google Fiber, from the ground up. The folks installing the system would get to enjoy a wonderful down to earth community with great restaurants, tons of music, and outdoor activities. From an advertising perspective, Asheville has been in every 'top 10 places to live' list for about as long as they've been making lists. People know about and have an eye out on Asheville and would be further intrigued by the Google network. The community itself would be able to develop in some really wonderful ways. There are so many entrepreneurs here building businesses in a green, family/community oriented and responsible way. The increased access to information and ability to communicate more effectively with the world would allow for some really amazing developments in their business strategies. We are a bit socked up in the mountains, so the increased connectivity thru a computer network (rather than additional roadways) would help to bolster the city's already fantastic core for the coming century. And, there are just a bunch of really great folks up here, trying to live a life of balance between the real world and 'the REAL world'. We really hope you guys come to Asheville!
Greenville city and county know how to attract and host big, growing companies. Just think BMW North America plant - the sole manufacturer of the X5 and X6 for the whole world.
Asheville is one of the most unique places on earth. Its the Paris of the South, a retreat in the mountains with an almost spiritual feel to it. Its quirky in a grand way, and its people are some of the most down to earth, yet intreguingly interesting folks in the country. Ive been trying to get there permanantly for the last 10 yrs.
Asheville is strangely tech savy and folksy all at the same time. Just nowhere else in this land where so many odd things all blend together in such a wonderful human soup. Im not sure anyone actually understands how or why this all works so well in Asheville....but magically it does. If you want a really cool place to locate...Asheville has the altitude, the attitude, and the alchemy all in one wonderful place.
