As a former councillor myself, I can tell you that if you divide the number of hours spent working on Town business, by the stipend that most councillors recieve (even at the maximum rate of 2% of Town revenue), it is much less than minimum wage. Now, most of us do not get involved in municipal politics to get rich, we do it because we think that we can help to make our Towns better places to live. That being said, it is only fair to be at least partially compensated for the work that you do.
